    Mountain Bike thread?

I just noticed that there seems to be quite a few riders on this forum, never really thought about it when scanning over the pages!

Just wondering what people ride and their fav tracks/centres?!

Not long come back from Afan which was a ace day out - covering white's trail and the wall

Muddy and windy but good good fun!

I'm currently riding a Orange Sub 5 SE which has been built up from scratch - great bike for singletrack and the odd bit or 4x messing about

Had a few upgrades recently like a new 08 Fox RP23 and a couple of other little bits - Does me well though for all that I throw at it

    Whats everyone else riding?

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

Yes Afan is superb. My fav course in Wales is the Marin Trail. I have just bought a MTB today (a Genesis Altitude hard tail) to get back into MTB after concentrating on road racing the last five years or so having started out as a off road rider. Looking foward to getting wet and muddy again!

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

Currently i've got a saracen MAD trials bike. Only original things left on it are the forks, stem and handlebars. Otherwise everything has been replaced. The original rear hub (a grimeca piece of crap) had pawls that were made of bamboo
    Current config:
    Vuelta Bomber rims
    DT swiss spokes
    Hope Bulb F&R hubs
    Tioga headset, stem and bars
    Identiti seat post
    WTB saddle
    Clim8 6 pot brakes (203mm front, 150mm rear (odd size ))
    FSA BB
    Truvativ Hussfelt trials crank
    DMR V8 pedals
Shimano XT shifter, rear mech and cassette
    Tioga 2.1 DH tyres

Out of action though due to snapping the rear axle after doing a 2m drop

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

Yeah Marin is awesome as well - I just like Afan due to the tough climbs! But more for the decents!! Plus the optional black part is a laugh even if the climb back up is a right pain!

Looking at building a Hardcore hardtail for some funnage! Cove and Dialled spring to mind on some decent forks

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

The only Mountain bike I use regularly is my old Litespeed singlespeed. Sold my old Foes fab & Sintessi Bazooka as there's not too many rad downhills in the Suffolk/Essex area and family and work comitments mean travelling is a non starter these days..

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

hehe thanks - not the greatest pic as it looks funny to me - but thats all i had on the laptop!!

i'll put up a couple more with better detail - but its a great all round bike to ride, nice on the hard stuff, but also handles all the singletrack and some 4x that I throw at it!!!

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

Yeah didnt realise that quite a few peeps were keen on biking here!!! defo need to get over to CYB in the next few weeks if I can make time for it!! Havent been there in ages!!

Afan wont dissapoint! climbs are a b*****d but after that the decents are soooo worth it - if your fitness is up to it - do the w2 run think its about 45km - amazing run to do, and can be done in a couple of hours with breaks at the top

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

I ride a Cannondale KillerV circa 1995. I think the only original components on it now are the frame itself and the seat post - all the rest is upgraded (XT throughout, Pace forks, Hope hubs/headset, Easton bars and stem, specialised saddle)

I used to do a fair bit of racing locally (only "sport" class mind), but mainly just use my bike to commute now (which is a crime).

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

Got a phone call about 19.30 one day last week . It was the'bairn' calling whilst he was driving home . I asked him where he had been and he told me he had been away 'mountain biking' . Now up with us it is pitch dark at this time of night so I was somewhat 'stunned'. He said' no problem ' i've got good lights. Asked him where he was and he said it was a mountain bike track (pitmachie ) i think -got a pic of it somewhere, anyway he said he was up with a couple of mates and they went up to about 400 feet on this track --temp was about -4deg and very 'icey' he said. I, said 'don't you think that is kind of dangerous. He said these light are really powerful. I said 'ave got lights on ma bike ', my mate took them home for me whilst on a trip to the South , cost a 1 gbp from a '99p' shop. He replied 'mine cost 350 gbp' !!!. Must photograph these the next time that I see him.

Yeah, 350 is easy to spend on MTB lighting. Mine are cheap LED efforts and they're best part of 100 quid.
