    Re: Running shoes

well, since this thread started, I've been spending more time with the barefoot running brigade, and have to say I agree with the science of it. Net result: read BORN TO RUN if you have the vaguest interest in running, and get the LEAST padded running shoes you can find. You'll save your knees and ankles and hips and lower back a whoooooole lot of pain by doing so, go faster, and run longer. Simples. And no, you don't have to run barefoot to enjoy the benefits, just something to protect your feet from stones/glass/bits and of very low pitch (angle between floor and heel)

If you disagree, do some more reading

    Hi leonkehoe,
I always prefer service chetah shoes for running, jogging and for treadmill.
They are comfortable and affordable. Try to find a sale on shoes in your area and get benefit from discounted offer.

    Re: Running shoes

I've skimped on shoes for the last few years tbh and never really thought much of it until I started getting really bad pain under the ball of my big toe to the point I couldnt walk properly, this caused me to twist my foot and walk on the outside of it, this in turn has screwed up my ankle and knee, bad times..
I ended up wearing my old MTB shoes with the cleats removed for 2 weeks as these dont flex so my foot was straight most of the time which helped loads.
Still hurts a bit now so I'm probably going to pop into the local running shop tomorrow afternoon or at the weekend sometime to get myself a proper pair of trainers, maybe even 2 pairs as I'll need some sort of footwear for training as well as day to day use..

    Re: Running shoes

Asics are motion control shoes, which you won't need if you have a normal footfall.

Best advice is above - find a shop with a treadmill to try them out on, and staff who know what they're talking about, so a specialist running shop would be the job, not these multiples. They'll tell you what type of gait you have.

Top of the range models provide the best cushioning and protect yr joints, but are pricey, so you need to look for last season's top of the range, which are just as good as this season's but a different colour and usually very cut price.

Make doesn't matter so long as they're cushioned and feel good to run in.
They won't get better with wearing, so if they rub or aren't right in the shop, even a bit, get something else.

I found HiTec wore out very quickly - they're bottom of the market really and OK if cheap is all you need.

But the ultimate advice is just get running. Provided yr shoes aren't crippling you and have a bit of cushioning, then running a couple of times a week is better than waiting till you've got the right shoes. If you get keen, you'll sort the shoe thing out yourself.
    Can you just............................?

    Re: Running shoes

cushioning is the major cause of injuries, NOT the impact from the ground. Fact. Numerous studies cited in BORN TO RUN, mentioned many places on Runners World site, etc.

Briefly, reason is that it hides the impact made from heel striking. Kenyan, Ethiopian, Bushman, Tarahumara Indians all show that barefoot/NO cushioning eliminates injuries, since you adapt your running to avoid the heelstrike, instead using the natural trampoline of the best suspension system in the world: your foot.

And FWIW, the Kenyans LOVE running on tarmac, since it eliminates injury from stones/glass/etc. And they don't wear shoes before they turn 18, by which time they've clocked up something like 20,000 miles of training. Very funny but true.

If you look at Nike, their latest/recent logo is 'Run Barefoot' since they've realised the tide is turning. lol. Of course, they mean run in their 'barefoot' shoes, not actually barefoot.

    Re: Running shoes

I know what you mean, I can't give any suggestions but to by a decent pair you need to part with a good amount of money for quality. When I go running in my trainers after two miles or so my feet are killing me.

    Re: Running shoes

well, evidence shows the CHEAP shoes are better for your feet. If a two mile run is killing you, you need to check other things, ie posture, gait etc.

after all, if you run barefoot on grass for 2 miles, you wouldn't have the same pain, since your body wouldn't let you run incorrectly
