Hi guys, i've got this Macbook Pro, a standard version with no upgrades.
I've been running XP pro with Bootcamp 1.1.2 since before Christmas now and all has been fine (except the occassional blue screen at start up) up until now.
From the second XP boots up it's CPU usage never drops below about 75% even when idle. So whenever i open up a program or large file etc.. it just slows to a stop and often freezes, needing to be rebooted.
I've ran spybot, ad-aware, anti-virus, system restore, msconfig to stop some programs from starting up, defragged the hard drive, even done a disc clean up to free up any extra space.
The only clue i have is in my processes, unlike the usual system idle process running at 98%, i have system idle at about 30%, system running at about 30% and explorer running at 15-20%
I just can't seem to do anything to affect it, and trying to find the problem is a pain with it constantly freezing. To me it looks like explorer is the a main cause of the problem but i cant just end the task, it's explorer! it's kind of needed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bres
:edit: As i posted this, i was having a look through my firewall properties, and noticed that there was a setting for explorer which was set to allow traffic. figured i'd set it to deny just to give it a go and see and it's only gone and sorted it. SO now it works ok (except WoW keeps giving an error now since system restore) but if anyone has any ideas i still like to hear them so i know what was going on.
