Well, in short, to gain weight, you need to take in more calories than you burn.

I read that if you do more reps with less weight then you get bigger muscles but not as strong, but if you do less reps with more weight you become stronger (but muscles will take longer to grow). Makes sense I suppose.
I am pretty sure it is the other way round actually. Less reps, more weight for more mass (read: bigger), more reps and less weight for more toned (and stronger in the terms of stamina) muscle.

The best hing is a proper baalnced diet broken down into 6 regular meals per day, if you look up Zig Xag dieting you can find out more about protien etc. Also if you struglle to eat regualr then you dont have to resort to expensive branded meal replacements - buy a can a of slimfast it is a meal in a can and good if you re on the go, I regualary buy them and my wife and I ( she is a super gym bunny also) get some strange lloks when we have 12 of them on the conveyor at the checkout, you are simply not using it as a meal replacement but as a supplemental meal
But, carbs are also a big part of it....

The body uses carbs for most exercise. When carbs arent availible, it uses the next best energy source which is protein. It takes this from your muscles, so your undoing everything you are working for. So, look into high carb and protein diets, or use supplements.

I'm the same as you, and I am finally gaining muscle and mass by eating a lot of protein/carbs, using supplements, and working out regulary.

Remember not to over-do working out also, your body needs time to rest to grow.

    Hope this helps.
