    100GB+ SSD Recommendation

    Hi all,
I've been fortunate enough to have a 64GB SSD powering my main system up until now. Although trying to only keep frequently used apps (Office, CS5 etc) installed on this, I'm coming to the conclusion that it's just not enough room any more. I'm usually running with just under 2GB free (hibernation files, system restores etc are all turned off), and although this is great for normal use, it's getting to the stage where Photoshop is complaining about running out of scratch space on that volume, and I can't even install the Win7 SP1 update, as there's not enough free space during install! :-(

So I'm looking to upgrade to a larger drive. I'm a little confused as to what to get though (especially with rumours of new drives being released soonish?). I was considering a 120GB Vertex 2E, although am I right in thinking that all Vertex 2Es are now using 25nm flash?

The lower the cost the better as far as I'm concerned, although the £162 for the aforementioned Vertex didn't strike me as too unreasonable. If new drives are imminent though, I'm happy to wait for a couple of weeks and either buy a new model, or take advantage of any price drop on the last gen?

I hope that all makes sense - thanks in advance for the input everyone!

    Re: 100GB+ SSD Recommendation

new drives are just around the corner, and they're faster. Current drives are still fast though and perfectly adequate, but if I was spending £160 I'd be inclined to wait if it's not an urgent issue for you.

    Re: 100GB+ SSD Recommendation

The SandForce SF-2000 SSD's are going to be pricey (Scan have the 120GB Vertex 3's for pre-order at £220) and you'd need a SATA3 motherboard (which unfortunately the MSI P55-GD80 isn't) to get the most out of them.

As you say, the 120GB Vertex 2E can be had now for £165 (I've got one myself, awesome drive), but if you're not in a rush it may be worth waiting a week or two for the new drives to come out as this price should drop a bit.

    Re: 100GB+ SSD Recommendation

I agree, if you can then best wait for the newer drives to come out so that the current generation will hopefully drop down in cost.
