N7700 RAM / Memory upgrade

I read your above post with great interest... I was thinking of dumping the stock firmware and going open source (seeing as fixes seem to come all too slow from our friends in Taiwan) but i had no idea if it was possible. From what you're saying, you can stick in a graphics card and basically run your N7700 as regular linux box with openfiler. I'd be interested in how you got to that point... fancy sharing your experiences?

I too would love to do the same thing--can we use the native Thecus N7700 ver 3.X Firmware with a Nvidia GeForce 8400GS and openfiler to make a usable and networked linux computer?

Btw one of the video card that I tested is a GS8400....and it doesn't want to boot (or at least to power on)...works fine on a normal pc...maybe it's taking too much power from the slot (to be honest I doubt).

Isn't the GS8400 a Pci-E x16 card?
How does it fit into the tiny pci-e slot of the N7700?
I would love to be able to hook the n7700 to a screen!

Ok, so I bought a VGA connector and simply attached it to the motherboard. Works perfectly!
I also got a new processor and some more memory as well.

I have installed freeNAS on the N7700 but it seems to be missing drivers for the storage controller, a marvell 88SE63xx chip. Can't find any information about it regarding freeBSD so I guess I have to look to Linux.

Anyone know if openfiler work on the N7700 without modification?
