    N8800 - Link Aggregation 802.3ad problem

    Hello,

    I have a Thecus N880 and one 3Com 4400 switch

Each Thecus unit has Jumbo Frames (8000) enabled on the WAN and LAN. Jumbo frames are enabled on the 3Com.

Each Thecus unit has Link Aggregation set to 802.3ad. The 3Com website confirms that the switch supports gigabit 802.3ad

All ports on the switch are part of the same VLAN group. The WAN and LAN cables from each Thecus are connected to a pair of ports that have been set as trunked on the 3Com under separate IDs. The switch reports each port has a gigabit connection.

However, I cannot connect to the N8800 (either via a web-browser or by mapping a network drive under XP).

If I disable the trunking for the N8800 on the 3Com switch I can connect again to the N8800 without any problems. If I re-enable the trunk, the connection is lost.

I have tried disabling Jumbo Frames but this does not make a difference.

Has anyone successfully used link aggregation with the 8800?

    Re: N8800 - Link Aggregation 802.3ad problem

I'm using it on a dell managed switch without any major problems. I just added the ports to the LAG group and it worked. I'm not using jumbo frames because I have 100Mbit devices on the network.

I only had one quirky issue where the N8800 wouldn't respond, but after a reboot it was fine.

Which firmware are you using. It worked for me with beta versions 2.01.07.4 and 2.01.08.5.

Sorry I haven't been much help, but it seems to work for me. I think.

BTW, have been able to set up link aggregation successfully with any other devices and that switch? Do you have any other devices you can use to test it out?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your responses.

I have the following Firmware for my Thecus N8800: v2.01.06.
Unfortunately by Thecus is the only available Firmware version!
Currently I have no other device to test it ;-(

Thank you and I will still test

    Greetings

    Cyril

There are beta firmwares available to download if you search, but I'm not sure I'd try a beta unless you really need the features.

The best reason for the betas is XFS file system support, which is about 40% throughput than EXT3

If you want XFS then stick with the ...07.5 firmware. The 08.4 firmware has bugs if you use a domain.

Interestingly, I've actually seen performance increase when not using aggregation, but YMMV.

    Hello everyone,

    Thank you for your responses.
I do not use Beta version to the NAS because I find dangerous.
Also, I think it will not fix my problem.

I am still looking in the documentation of the Switch.
I anyway to change a Switch and take one with ports Mb 10/10/1000

    Thank you all

    Cyril

i have had exactly the same problem as this but with a n7700 and a netgear gs724ts switch.

what is the difference between load balance and 802.3ad? i understand failover is different.

did you ever get it working?

    Re: N8800 - Link Aggregation 802.3ad problem

    Hello Currie021,

    I have two switch, a 3Com 4400 10/100 and 10/100/1000 Linksys SRW2024P.
I successfully created a link Agregation with 3COM and Linksys but that with the Linksys is not stable unlike 3COM.
Indeed with the Linksys after a while it is no longer achievable only solution reboot the NAS. Currently I have not yet found the exact reason.

If you have any information I'm interested.

    Good day

    Cyril
