    Car insurance question?

    CAN ANYONE HELP?
For my mother to be main policy holder having a full uk license for over 30 years and for me as a 22 year old who has been a holding a uk provisonal for approx 4-5 years.
My mother hasn't been driving for about 15 years...therefore has had no insurance as we haven't had a car. But in the time she did have insurance she never claimed at all. But does this mean she has no-no claims? As it looks like she has been driving for 35+years but hasn't gained any no claims bonus's which I think is really affecting our price quotes making them high...this isn't the case. She just hasn't been driving in ages but has NEVER claimed when she DID drive???? What quote would I be looking at?

iirc Your NCD only lasts two years if you haven't had insurance

As above, she has zero NCD. But she might be able to get an introductory discount as an older driver, could be worth going to local insurance agent to see what they can offer.

    Re: Car insurance question?

Agreed, it's a pain, and seems unfair, but they have to assume she hasn't been driving and therefore when she does will automatically be placed in a higher risk group, hence the high quotes.

I'm 29 and only got a policy of my own 2 years ago, despite driving accident free since getting my license at 17, insured as a named driver on a policy in my parent's name until I could afford my own. I thought the magic '25' would bring down the cost markedly but didn't, ah well. I went with Admiral in the end as they offered by far the cheapest quote and have a 10-month 'bonus accelerator' option that gives you 1 year's NCB after just 10 months.

As recommended, speak to some companies on the phone to discuss your options or phone a broker for more impartial advice.

    Best of luck!
