Just discovered a really nifty disc cloner and it's freeware :
Macrium Reflect (macrium.com)
Cloned my HDD onto my SSD just now in 12 minutes.
Belarc Advisor - Useful for retrieving software keys from your registry;
Foxit Reader - Secure PDF reader (can disable scripts/links/whatever).
I can't post links because of new user restrictions, but both can be found on Google easily enough.
DSynchronize.
A standalone tiny app to sync files or folders when the source changes. Very useful, very simple.
I think many people are using libreoffice http://www.libreoffice.org/
instead of openoffice now.
Great list btw not sure if you still update it?
BurnAware is free burning software. Much less bloat than Nero. Great bit of freeware.
How does it compare to ImgBurn?
MusicBrainz Picard - Fantastic tool for editing music collections.
Admittedly I just use it for burning data dvd's and Iv not used imgburn for some years but I would compare it to nerolite. Simple one click bloat free interface, burns anything Iv thrown at it over the last 2 years. All options are there boot disc mp3 iso etc. Give it ago. I have found it to be an excellent bit of freeware.
Defraggler - Id imagine most are aware of this but its another bit of freeware I use in preference to the inbuilt defrag tool. Regular updates and improvements added too.
This list might be due an overhaul. I'll try and get around to it soon!

As a general rule, I cannot recommend portableapps http://www.portableapps.com/ enough. Loads of great free software with a really handy front end for updating existing apps and downloading more.
Same goes for Ninite http://ninite.com/ (which I think has been mentioned), it's great for quickly installing lots of free apps. Especially good when you're installing things on a new computer. Keep the custom prepared EXE handy in a drop box or something and you're good to go multiple times!
If you do update the list. You may wish to remove (Messenger Plus+) as live messenger was replaced with Skype.
Also Xmarks used to be fox marks is a good bookmark backup and syncing add on for fire fox,IE,chrome.
And DownThemAll! is an ok massdownloader for Fire Fox.
Thanks for all the other apps people have mentioned, found some
great stuff.
I'd suggest adding qBitTorrent, baretorrent and Deluge in the torrent section. In one of the audio sections please add Spek. It's a handy tool for audio files (and audiophiles too!). Finally, nowadays Calibre should really be on any list like this. It makes moving ebooks between devices into a trivial process.
I would recommend Faststone for awesome screencaps! http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=775

1. FreeCommander - http://freecommander.com/en/summary/
File manager
I actually prefer the FreeCommander 2009.02b version - the XE one added an awful colour theme and style with pointless 3D effect buttons, some of which take up a lot of room. I'm going to guess it was made in Delphi hence the XE naming.
The original reason for downloading this was to easily see the sizes of Folders. Handy if you've no idea what's using a lot of space especially on an SSD or just for keeping things tidy. But I now use it for a host of other file tasks.
