    Re: HEXUS.freeware list

I find DVDFlick (http://www.dvdflick.net) very good for creating DVDs from video files. It supports loads of video formats/codecs, and is dead simple to use if you just want to burn a single video file to DVD. For more advanced use it has a reasonable amount of more complex functionality including basic support for menus.

Another useful package is Zero Assumption Recovery (http://www.z-a-recovery.com/) - a very powerful tool for recovering deleted files from digital camera cards. The full version (paid for) can do data recovery on hard disks and other media, but recovery from digital camera cards is free.

Can I suggest MediaBrowser for the media section? The best one I've used, by a massive margin. Think it's still free. My version certainly is.

For an operating system dedicated to graphics and music production, Ubuntu Studio.
On Microsoft OS can't beat the small download of Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe!
I will come back and edit this with more soon.

I am totally agree with you. avira is a really good AV solution. I think this must be added into the list.

Another free (and very good) Antivirus solution is Microsoft Security Essentials. It has a very small memory footprint, scans really fast and the reviews are generally very favorable.

    Re: HEXUS.freeware list

would like to add some programs

when i moved from xp to vista/win7 one of the things i missed most was the File Types property dialog page

so if i wanted to edit file extensions i had to do it manually in the registry which is risky
anyway ive found this great program that lets you edit extensions change the descriptions and change the icon and alot of other useful things

    http://defaultprogramseditor.com/

2nd program i would like to add is classic shell

it adds alot of the shell options from older windows to vista/win7

    What is Classic Shell?
Classic Shell is a collection of features that were available in older versions of Windows but are removed from Vista and Windows 7. It has a classic start menu for Windows 7, it adds a toolbar for Windows Explorer and supports a variety of smaller features. There are 2 major components - Classic Explorer and Classic Start Menu.

    Re: HEXUS.freeware list

"Convert - Free mini app - convert any type of unit measurement into something else - lb to Kg, miles to cm etc."

You can do that from the google search box, if you type in "4 miles in kilometers" for example it'll return "4 miles = 6.437376 kilometres"

Also, a website that I've found really useful when rebuilding PCs is http://ninite.com

You select the programs you want to install, and it downloads a silent installer to put them all on your computer. Way quicker than downloading them individually.
