    Are you running vista? It may be that it's now using dx10 which is stressing the system more?

    Re: Problems with my HD3850

    Have you tried running a benchmark like 3dmark 05 or 06?

    They will give results that we can compare to systems with a similar spec.

    The 297mhz clock speed is the 2d clock. In 3d mode it will use higher clocks.

    You could try uninstalling your drivers and try using a program such as drivercleaner to remove all possible drivers in case something has got corrupted. Once you have run that all you will need to do is download the 7.11 hotfix driver that fixes issues with 29xx/38xx series graphics cards.

    Make sure you are using the latest ATI Catalyst v7.11 drivers not the ones that came on the CD as ATI cards have always been let down by their drivers (I have a x1950 at the moment) Your 7900gs was an Nvidia with Nvidia drivers need I say more!

    Re: Problems with my HD3850

    cant post url's but -> review.zdnet.com/graphics-cards/ati-radeon-hd-3850/4505-8902_16-32745241.html

    Shah ran all of his tests in Windows XP, so they're all DirectX 9, and at very aggressive detail and resolution settings that basically highlight where the Radeon 3850 chokes. And based on how the Radeon 3850 struggled on Crysis, you can see why it wouldn't make sense to try it with the very high DirectX 10 quality, as it's barely playable in DirectX 9
    One thought, what PSU do you have? maybe it hasn't got the balls to drive the new card!

    Cheers

    Re: Problems with my HD3850

    url -> ATI RADEONâ„¢ HD 3850
    url -> Power Supplies Certified for Single Card Operation

    Mmmm looks like that's ok, you must have a Thermaltake Purepower RX 500A W0142 (500W) then.

    Re: Problems with my HD3850

    Is it possible that you have some override setting on for vsync so its capping your fps @ 60 or refresh rate of the screen? You could try running some benchies and using fraps to show fps and see it it stays locked on 60.
