Unhappy I can't belive this has happened

Ok i installed my new 520W crossaire PSU successfully and my computer and internet worked fine. However once i installed the 8800 GTS 512MB, my internet stopped working.

I have no ethernet card, just the built in one i have been using that comes with my mobo, i have checked all connections internally to no avial, i also tried using a USB ethernet device in all my usb slots (which all are working) but even still my internet didn't work. The ethernet socket in my mobo appears undamaged. Just to make sure the problem wasn't with my ISP, i tested my ethernet cable that i use for my PC with an XBOX360, which worked. I cannot seem to understand what the problem actully is. I have purchashed a 10/100MB ethernet lan card (i hope that's the right part) in attempt to try and fix this issue. Was this a good course of action? What would you suggest i do?

Please try and give suggestions expecially the yoyotech staff, i brought this hardware to play online. Also i am using my libary to access the internet now, so i won't be able to check back regulary.

    Thanks

    Hi

Firstly what motherbard are you using?

Some BIOS's allow you to view the status of the connected network cable, which in this instance would be useful.

You could have some sort of IRQ conflict which sounds like it could have been caused by the 8800 drivers. What version of the forceware did you install? Have you tried uninstalling them again?

A 10/100 PCI card will solve your problem but if it is the actual lan port on the motherboard that has become faulty then as long as it is within warranty then you can get it replaced.

bit of a longshot but a similar thing happened to me! though i found out it was due to oveclocking.

is your comp overclocked? the reason beign that for me, it was the pci- frequency was set at default 100 which led to errors, had to tweak it to run at 104 before everything worked properly, webpages loaded up junk (literally junk)with random error messages, so if your comp has been overclocked, give your pci frequency a nudge

YOYOtech - Ben I can't remember what motherboard i have (i am in the libary you see), i have tried booting up with the old graphics card and uninstalling the 8800 drivers, but when i did this i put the drivers back on before turning off the computer. Also i haven't tried to overclock my pc.

The 10/100MB Ethernet card is due to arrive till the 10/03/08 - 19/03/08.

Also forgot to mention, the internet was off even before i installed the 8800 drivers.

Also windows xp detects the ethernet port. Will the Ethernet card definatly solve my problem?

Re: I can't belive this has happened

Ok I bought the XFX 8800GTS 512mb yesterday and experienced the same problem. Now this is what I did instead of using the normal PCIE connector I got a PCIE connector and took 2 modular cables and coonected them to the separate PCIE connector and now have no problems. I think its a PSU problem and will be getting a bigger PSU this month and see what happens then.

Thanks, i don't understand what you mean exactly, i will try what you did and attempt to make sence out of it. I hope i figure it out and it works. Also it shoulden't be a PUS rpblem a my 520W crossaire PSu can run 2 of these. Thanks

Ashhow : I can't belive this has happened

if you are saying that the network card was not working before you installed the 8800 graphics card, then it sounds like it is a problems with your connection or cable or network port .

if you have checked with your ISP and they say everything is ok - and you are still able to get on to xbox live, then it sounds like there is a problem with the network port.......

have you tried removing the network port from the system and re-installing it ?

if it is a problem with the network port itself - then instal a network pci card will solve the problem, and allow you to connect to the intenet...

Re: I can't belive this has happened

The internet worked fine before i installed the 8800 card, everything is ok with my ISP and i didn't know the socket which the ethernet cable goes in comes out. My ethernet card should arrive today (not the other one from hong kong) If that has solved the problem i will reply before 1700 hours, if not, it's is still not working.

Re: I can't belive this has happened

Finally it worked! I got the Ethernet card and now it's working. Although it **** me up when it said no internet connection, but resetting the modem got it working. Thanks for all your help.

Dammit, i brought two Ethernet cards because i couldn't be bothered waiting for one from Hong Kong, luckily they are not expensive.
