    Watercooling pointers

Ok - pretty much set on a TJ07 - gonna air cool for starters on my E8400/P35
Going to leave I7 till it gets a little cheaper but would like a little watercooling advice please

Had an asetek waterchill single rad loop kit before - fancy going back again - want near silent operation in my soon to be owned TJ07 - have a brace of Noctua 120mm fans already and currently a 285GTX with a bigg ass thermalright GTX air cooler, soooooooooooo.

Thinking how much would it cost to get a silent watercooling CPU rig with a little o/c headroom - only want 1 loop and would like to be able to cool newer single dx11 GPU when I buy it. And can I get a CPU block that will do E8400 and then I7?

So Triple rad, silent pump - fish tank(with built in pump?) are they quiet???

Really looking for some pointers from the Hexus Watercooling Massive.........webby you there dude

    XSPC Laing DDC Top/w Reservoir http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...cat=550&page=1 £20
    Laing DDC http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...at=1048&page=1 £50
EK Supreme LT http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...cat=666&page=1 £30 (775 and 1366 compat for future upgrade, or go for the heatkiller rev3)
    Black Ice® GTS-Lite 360 http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...at=1152&page=1 £40 (thermochill 120.3 ~£60 [i'd plump for this])
    Block for GFX card ~£70
Obv + fluid + fittings + tubing etc

Wanting to chuck NB/SB/'FETs in too?

edit: this is supposed to be in that ^^

Fish tank pumps are a no no for computers.

They are designed to be submerged, they have strange fittings and aren't anywhere near as powerful. Get a Laing DDC Pro and a decent mount and it's silent.

You will be looking at a EK Supreme, D-Tek Fuzion V2 or Swiftech Apogee GTZ for both 775/1366. The EK and Swiftech are more restrictive however, take this into consideration if you wish to cool both CPU and GPU in one loop, with a quiet pump They can all be used on both sockets, but need an additional plate (£5-£10)

As for radiators, depends on how much room you have to play with, you could put a PA 120.3 in the bottom, if you remove the hard drive racks and get a bracket for it, or a Black Ice 120.2 in the roof and a smaller 120.1 rad somewhere else to help out.

It depends if you want low temps (higher overclocks) or just silence too, on what rads you need really.

For a CPU and high power GPU I'd reccomend a 120.3 in the bottom with some good fans (noctuas are ok for silence, but Scythe's have higher static pressure and can be put on a fan controller for similiar noise but more performance).

As for price, I'd say about £200 for CPU loop

    £55 Rad
    £40 Pump
    £45 Block
    £20 Tubing, Barbs, Coolant
    £15 Reservoir
£15 Radiator stand (for bottom mounting of the radiator)

Add £60 for a good GPU block.

    Any more questions, just ask.

Actually, the NF-P12's are designed with optimal static pressure in mind, hence why they are a nine bladed design:

The S-12B's are their quiet[er] fans, and Noctua state themselves that they take a two-fold approach to the market, the P12's aimed at high impedance (high FPI rads), and the S12's for general low impedance high airflow shifting

Plus i can't find any published values for Sycthes fans on their site , although i could have missed them, 'tis late afterall...

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Wow thanks for the detailed pointers

    £200 is fine for costings

Reason I fancied a fish tank is I like the look of the resevoir doing its stuff in the front panel

Was planning for rad in base and move hds into upper compartment of TJ07, so a triple rad running with the 3 NF-P12's I have should work. I am looking to be able to get a decent o/c but also as quiet as poss. Atm I am running NFP12 on GPU one on CPU, another NFP12 as a front intake a 92mm Noctua in the Roof and a 120mm bloomin great big Sunon as a rear exhaust - Noctuas running at 50% and Sunon at 30% in an original CM Stacker and it's near silent. I'd like to be no noisier than that if poss.

So the rad is looking to be the PA 120.3

    - can I use one of the acrylic 5 1/4 inch bay resevoirs?

And this chap looks good: D-Tek Fuzion V2

GPU block i guess will wait until I know which DX11 card im gonna get as I guess if I get one for the 285GTX its prob incompatible right?

NB is cooled by a heat pipe thingy on my MSI mobo so im hoping I can leave that alone.

Pump wise I found this one: http://watercooled-pcs.co.uk/en/pump...-pump-top.html
    and this one:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...source=froogle

Finally does anyone use one of these? Any good for controlling all your fans etc?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Aqua-...5-Bay)-(53035)

Thanks in advance guys - i'm slowly learning!!!!!

You can use a bay reservoir yes, some are messy but if you want to, you can.

GPU block, unless it's a core only and a heatsink then it will 99% be incompatable with the new GPUs.

Pump, get the one with the XSPC top, it's the best. Or you could get the XSPC reservoir top, and save some space in the case and make it look a bit nicer.

The aquaero is overprices, 6 temperature sensors, and 4 fan control and a flow meter? You could get a mCubed T-Balancer BigNG and have it all automated. £30 cheaper, leaving you enough for a good flow meter too, not needed at all though.

I'd reccomend getting your parts from a proper watercooling shop, WatercoolingUK or Chilled PC are generally cheapest.

Thanks again for ongoing the help peter

Ok, so basically you are saying that there are much better resovoirs than the drive bay - will it be a lot easier to maintain the loop with say:

    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...cat=550&page=1

    PLUS

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...source=froogle

Will that also be nice and quiet?

Also can you control how hard the pump pumps?

Lastly with my last little loop (the waterchill asetek) I used distilled water and got lots of algae over a year or so - can you prevent that?

    Hi,

Firstly, drive bay reservoirs are good, and there isn't anything wrong with them. However, it means an extra length of tubing from the pump, to the reservoir, and another from the reservoir to the radiator out. This can be avoided by having the reservoir "attached" to the pump (In the form of the top you linked to)

You would only need the standard pump, and the top, not the one you linked to from scan, that wouldn't work.

As for algae, you can go 3 ways.

    - Plain distilled/deionized water and some biocide
    - Plain distilled/deionized water and some silver
    - Watercooling coolant (Such as Feser One or Primochill ICE). They come in colours and often already have the anti algae stuff in it.

    I'd reccomend this lot for you;

CPU Block - EK Supreme or XSPC Delta v3.

This depends on if you want lower temps (EK) or lower restriction (XSPC). Both will be find for any processor though, I'd go with the XSPC as it will let you use the 10w pump and still give good temps.

Pump - Laing DDC Pro (10W)

Pump top - XSPC Reservoir Top

    Radiator - Thermochill PA 120.3

Radiator bracket - TJ07 Triple Radiator Bracket

    Pump bracket - Click

Then whatever tubing you want (I'd reccomend 7/16" ID and 1/2" barbs for optimum performance).

That will be a nice loop and should be on budget too

EDIT: you can't control the DDC pumps, you can control the D5 pumps though, but there is no real need, if you get the anti vibration bracket it will be fine.

This sounds really sad but I value the 'look' of things and and like :

    http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...roducts_id=961

    or

    http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...oducts_id=1126

Would they still be compatible and efficient in the setup you have suggested?

BTW - what is that pump i linked to from scan for ?

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Ok with ALOT of guidance (Esp thanks to Peter) This is what I am thinking:

Thermalright PA120.4 Rad (Fitted with Noctua P12's
    Laing DDC1T PRO Pump
XSPC Acrylic Reservoir for Laing DDC Or XSPC Bay Reservoir - Clear Acrylic (the latter is pure vanity)
    D-TEK FuZion v2 CPU Block
    Thermaltake Flow TX

Add GPU block when decided which DX11 GPU to go with.

    Hopefully deadly silent and efficient

    Change the pump to a

this will give you a better flow rate when you add the graphics card later.

Would it be noisier than the original?

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Will produce no noise if set up correctly and placed on a mounting block.
My system is running one and the only noise I have is the fan in the psu (which is very quiet anyway)

I would also consider the swiftech GTZ over the D-TEK FuZion v2 as it gives slightly better cooling, which will be very important when you go to i7.

Mount wise is this the sort of thing you use?
