Hi all. Corsair is doing some research into the reasons why people buy new PSUs. It would really help if you could take the time out to complete this Poll.
Please also complete this shorter Poll here. As a thank you, everyone who responds to the Polls will be entered into a Prize Draw to win a TX650W PSU or TX750W PSU! ![]() Your help is much appreciated! |

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
Usually a combination. Even with the lower end PSUs from yourself, they will easily cover a fairly powerful system as standard. Upgrading isn't an issue with almost any branded PSU these days, even low wattage ones (amps>watts
) |

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
same as i said in the other poll, upgrade if i need a higher wattage/amp psu when i upgrade(havent upgrade for awhile till now
) but i do find cost too be an important role, reason i didnt get a psu from you guys was that Xclio has a 700w psu for £65 which i thought was reasonable and would last along time, 72amps on 4 rails(in total), also if the psu will be at constant strain/load then i would consider upgrading too a higher one, efficiency plays a huge role too, mines apparently 87% efficient(i really wonder xD)Will be trying out your psu if this one dies or i need a new one |

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
I normally give myself a bit of leeway when choosing a PSU so it'll be alright for future upgrades... A new PSU normally results in upgrades amounting to a new base system.

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
Hardware needs and efficiency are my reasons, as the new psu has to cope with what i just bought and be efficient at the same time

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
One of the main reasons why i took more care in selecting my PSU was that my old one didn't have any connectors for a PCIe graphics card... that said, i take graphical power quite seriously, and am always considering adding a new card, so i need to make sure that i can power it, the assumption being that if it can power multiple cards, it can handle everything else that's needed...

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
My main reason would be quieter and more efficient. I always try and make my pc as quiet as possible (within a sensible price range).

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
You forgot to include "read a review of existing power supply and decided you'd rather save fireworks for November 5th / July 4th"...
I decided to go Corsair after HardOCP reviewed a similar model of PSU to the one was using at the time. Let's just say I didn't like the idea of having all my other components attached to it any more. Still got the old PSU in a 2nd PC but it seems to be rather warm running. |

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
It was a combination of needed a higher rated PSU due to playing with SLI every now and again and also the requirement of the newer PCI-E 8 Pin power connections.

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
Quiteness and more W required when upgrading whole system is most important reasons to upgrade PSU imo. Efficiency is important too, but most good quality PSUs have similar efficiencies anyway...

Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2
There is one option missed off there.... new SFF case
I tend to get a new PSU every build anyway as the requirements of the PC change and the budget I have changes. I have a rule of never spending less than £50 on a new PSU after past experiences with cheaper budget units... :S |
