    Help with IN9 32X-MAX Wi-Fi

I've just built my new comp comprising of the following parts

    Abit IN9 32X-MAX Wi-Fi
    Intel QX6700 Quad
    2 x BFG 8800GTX water cooled
    4GB of mem
Enermax Galaxy EGA1000EWL 1000W Power Supply
    Koolance PC4-1036BK water cooled case/system

I cannot get this beast up and running, I keep getting error

8.7. which is power to the cpu

I've tried both the 8block & the 4block x 4block cpu plugs on the power supply, still no joy

Has anyone got the same m/board cpu and power supply up and running or a solution to my problem?

Hopefully someone will be able to help me out on this 1

water-cooled - did you disable the shutdown on low CPU fan rpm in the BIOS?
If not then connect an rpm sensing fan up to the CPUFan header to get you into the BIOS where you can uncheck it & then you can disconnect it after that.

Cheers BUFF...I can't even get in to the bios as it starts doing it's checks and shuts down with the post error 8.7. I have already got a 4pin fan connected to the cpu fan terminal, I've taken the fan of the heatsink and stuck it to the wall of the case to avoid that error.

Cheers Sean, I've just rung and got the msg "ring between certain times"
I'm off work on Fri/Sat so I'll ring you Fri about 10ish, is there anything that you'd like me to check/do beforehand ?
Hopefully we'll get this system up and running.

    1st and upmost ABIT Support

This appears to be an on going problem at the moment due to the end conclusion

After basicaly stripping the complete system down to just the m/board without g/cards, memory, drives etc, just leaving the cpu in the motherboard and power connected via 20+4 and the 4+4 cpu power cables.

Started the system and actually got past the 8.7. error, so that ruled the m/board out

Fitted 1 memory stick, restarted her up and advanced a few more stages through the post checks till we came to a halt. Time for the Graphic card to be installed.

After fitting the BFG Nvidia 8800GTX, once again kept stopping at 8.7.
Was it the g/card or the power supply
Refitted the other BFG Nvidia 8800GTX and off we went again, actually got to see the ABIT startup screen

So it seemed it was 1 of the 2 BFG Nvidia 8800GTXs that was at fault, but gut feeling got the better of me and i'm glad it did. Refitted the 1st g/card and it booted up all the way

Next I went through a stage where no matter which g/card I installed, I still kept getting the 8.7. error
I kept at it till I presumed it was the way the g/cards were installed, if they were in loose it was ok but if put the holding screws in then it wouldn't work.

Never presume anything I've actually managed to get both cards installed with the holding screws and boot up.

I installed the rest of the memor, drives etc and it boots but then again it doesn't

I'm now at the stage that sometimes it will boot up, but if you turn it off and retry booting it fails with the 8.7. error. If you wait or pull the power plug out of the psu and back in again, sometimes it will start up and other times it won't.

Basicaly at the moment I have to keep trying to get it to boot up or it boots up right away I've asked for a RMA on the power supply as gut feeling tells me it's that what's causing the problem.

Your thoughts are welcome and I'll keep you updated on the progress of this beast

    UPDATE:

You have to watch how much load you put on the rails, too much drain on 1 rail seems to send the psu into safe mode. I could be wrong about this, but that's my opinion.

Based up my opinion I have managed to spread the load around, and it now starts every time

I've seen quite a few people with various 680i boards having similar problems with the Galaxy so you could well be right.
I think that there may be a new rev. of the PSU which usually would indicate a problem with the last 1 ...

    UPDATE:

Managed to get windows xp installed but the problem of having to try to get it to boot is back. Whilst installing xp every time xp rebooted I had to try to get it to boot back up again. If I try to do anything in the bios, I loose it cos it freezes and I have to reset the cmos to get it to boot.

Think it's time to just buy another psu as trying to get a rma from lootsale.co.uk is getting to be slightly difficult, if they persist in ignoring me then i'll let amazon sort it out for me.

Just go along the Distance Selling Act route on them. 30 days to return ANY product, for ANY reason, even if you don't like it. There are a few exceptions, but they are usuaully 'perishables'.

The only thing is I bought the power supply in dec with the w/c case so the 30 days are up. I only bought the cpu few weeks ago so didn't know about the problem till it was too late. I'll get in touch with enermax and get it rma'd.
Hopefully the V2 will solve the problem.

Ring Enermax, they will happily send you a later revision galaxy if you explain the problem to them. I had to swap mine because of a problem with a Commando, and they sent the new one out and they collected the old one at the same time via city link.

Its not 30 days, its 7 working days from the day after the item is delivered. It has to be in a resalable condition

I've been in touch with enermax who were very helpful.
I've sent them the psu today and should have it for monday, so hopefully this matter will be resolved soon

Oh no it doesn't. Companies regularly claim this - which may even be an offense in itself.

    <URL>oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resources/small_businesses/distance-selling/<URL>

    <URL>oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft698.pdf<URL>

"3.59 ...The DSRs do not link cancellation rights with a supplier’s ability to resell items as new."

What's really interesting is that if the company fails to inform you in a durable medium (paper or email -and their website doesn't count) of the 7 day period, then the 7 days doesn't begin until 3 months have elapsed!!

Distance selling regs are your friend.
