    Lock upp.

Good morning, i have just purchased a Abit AX-78 motherboard, when the system booted i went straight into the bios to adjust a few settings, i disabled cool and quiet has i was going to overclock at some time...what i did notice was there was no multiply setting to adjust the cpu speed, so i thought when i have installed windows i would update to new bios.
When windows Vista ultra was installed i put all the newest drivers in for the board and graphics, then installed Abit flash menu. Upon installing the new bios i got from the net, the system locked and has been like this for the last hour...if i turn the system off, i will lose the bios all together....any idea's?

    Components:

    AX-78
AMD Phenom x4 quad 9850 black edition
    4 g/b ocz pc2-8500c5 1066hz memory
    250 w/d hd/
    580 hiper power supply

    Re: Lock upp.

All that you can do is reboot it .
If it is a bad flash it may give you the option to recover from the bootblock or you can get a new BIOS chip.

Whilst FlashMenu should work it's inherently riskier flashing in Windows (& Vista sems worse in this regard than XP) than from a floppy/USB memory stick etc. in DOS .

    Re: Lock upp.

FF is what you normally want to see.
Did you do a full CMOS clear incl. discharging the caps & removing the battery?

The AX78 will show FF when the BIOS is hosed as well. We just went through this with a forum user over at the uabit forums, he had another member hot flash his BIOS chip and it fired right up afterwards..... I think it will probably work for you as well.

    Re: Lock upp.

have a look at what was added in later BIOS revisions... and if it says that it adds a changable multiplier then you'll need to flash to that BIOS revision..

nice to hear that your working again

    Re: Lock upp.

There is a bios setting somewhere that has to be set a certain way for the multiplier option to be available. I owned that board for a very short period and cant remember what it was.....LOL. PM Hokiealumnus, he uses that board a lot and I remember him explaining it to someone before.....
