    Unhappy IP35 Pro POST/RAM problems

    First my specs:
    Abit Pro IP35 Pro
    Intel Q6600
    OCZ Gold 800 2gb x 4
    Seagate 7200.11 500gb SATA
    EVGA 8800GT
    Thermaltake 750w
I havent done any overclocking to the computer what-so-ever.

I reformatted a couple days ago with Vista x64 because it would bluescreen. That aside, I came back from work today, booted up the computer and it wouldnt post; it was stuck on the ABIT screen and was stuck on 52 (Test all memory). It booted up after turning it off and having to play with it a little, and then about an hour ago it bluescreened while playing css; restarted and then it promptly crashed again and went back to not booting and showing 52. I reset the CMOS and nothing. I eventually took out the two OCZ 2gb sticks from the DIMM 2 and 4 slots and turned it on, and it booted fine. Put in one of the sticks in the DIMM 2 slot, turned it on and it booted fine. Finally I put the last stick in the 4th slot and it wouldnt boot and displayed 52 in the debug.

Here is also the report that Vista gave me upon booting up.
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: Bluescreen
    OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 3b
    BCP1: 00000000C0000005
    BCP2: FFFFF80001D3DD83
    BCP3: FFFFF9801DCE1710
    OS Version: 6_0_6000
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product 256_1

Is there anything I can do to try to fix this or am pretty much screwed? Any help is greatly appreciated :)

You'll need to set the MCH voltage a couple notches higher and make sure your feeding the memory the correct voltages as per manufacturers specs, also adjust the timings as per specs as well. You can do this with one stick installed, save the changes, and then install the remainder of the memory.

What's the exact model number of your RAM? (i.e. mine is OCZ2P800R22GK)

It shouldnt have changed, and I had used the exact same set-up and everything when I originally built the computer almost a year ago, and I believe its set at the stock settings still. The RAM I have, the stock voltage and timing is 1.8v and 5-5-5-18. Everest reports that the DIMM goes from 1.78-1.80v and the DIMM VTT is at .90v so the voltages and timings appear to be fine.

This is from the back of the original packing from the ram I bought from Newegg: OCZ2G8004GK

However Everest reports that the RAM is: OCZ2G8002G

    Re: IP35 Pro POST/RAM problems

Ok, here are a couple things you'll probably need to do; try it with two sticks installed, then after saving the settings (and making sure they stuck in BIOS), add the other two.

    • Set DDR2 Voltage to 1.9v (your warranty is good to 2.1v).
    • Set MCH 1.25 voltage to 1.41v to help the northbridge cope with the added strain of four sticks (this can and likely will be reduced later, we're just hitting it with some juice to see if your system stabilizes).
    • Set the fifth memory timing (tRFC) to 52.

If you are stable, leave Vdimm and tRFC alone and start reducing MCH. You can probably go as low as 1.33v and maintain stability, though 1.37v may be your sweet spot (it's set in .04v increments).

    Re: IP35 Pro POST/RAM problems

I think its actually the one stick of RAM that went bad, I put known working RAM into the 4th slot and it worked fine, but when I took it out and then put the suspected RAM into any of the slots so there was only 3 sticks total, it would POST then bluescreen trying to boot and restart the computer so Im pretty sure now that its just bad RAM that I have :[ Hopefully I remembered to register with OCZ and they will replace it. Thank you for your time though.

I noticed that I think my CPU clock speed was lowered somehow, this is the report from Everest: CPU Clock 1596.0 MHz (original: 2400 MHz) Im not sure how or why it was lowered?

This is probably because you have EIST/C1E activated. It drops your multiplier to 6x and the Vcore when the CPU isn't under load. When you put it under load, it should jump right back up.

Glad you figured out your RAM issue!
