IP35 pro won't go through POST. Please help.

I've just received my lovely new IP35 Pro XE and my E8500.

Trouble is I can't get it to go through POST. It does the well documented startup then shutdown but when it starts up the second time the LED readout just says 9.0 which according to the manual is AC2005 code for "Complete uGuru initial process AWARDBIOS take over booting job"

The bios doesn't ever take over. It doesn't give any beeps or initialise the screen at all so I can't get into setup.

I've tried disconnecting everything and booting with just 1 hard disk, the graphics card, mouse and keyboard but it hasn't helped. I've also tried the trick other people have used to reset the cmos several times but to no avail.

I've now taken it out of the case and I've tried it free standing but again it just sticks there.

Anyone had this before? Any ideas?

How many sticks of RAM do you have fitted? If more than 1 try booting with just one. If that works go into the BIOS and set the correct voltage for the RAM (quite often about 2.1V rather than the default 1.8V supplied by the board). You should then be able to boot with more than 1 stick fitted.

it's not something annoying like needing a BIOS update to support 45nm chips is it?

do you have a larger die process chip to try in in?

I can't get it into the bios. It won't get that far.

I have 2 sticks of RAM but I'm removed one as soon as I realised there was a problem.

Somebody on the US Abit forum suggested removing the battery as well as setting the cmos jumper. That was for a slightly different fault but I'm trying that at the moment.

According to the box it does support 45nm chips.

OK, problem solved. I took the CPU out and reseated it and put Arctic Silver on instead of relying on the little blobs of compound that were on the OEM heat sink
    Boots up properly now.
