    personally i use the revolutionary device called a "pocket" to store my mp3 player so i would tend towards players with gapless playback and mulitple codec support.... still the new 6gig pod minis are darn sexeh. and have al the ipod advantages. may by one in the usa this summer ( btw if i buy one in the usa can i then return it to apple uk if it borkifies itself?)
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
    Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works) .. just incase you were wondering

    What di yiu mean, connection? The iPod will be set to auto update, so you plug it ina nd it will update itself and then eject, so you can remove it. You can set it to stay connected to your pc by using it as a disk, but you can just drag and drop mp3 files onto it.

    Finaly getting something from iTunes, how can I group the tunes into folders? atm it seems to just bung em all in the songs folder.
    I do like how it can list tunes via artist genre ect though.

    Sorry, typo there, yiu can't just drag and drops files on and expect the iPod to pick them up and play them.

    What do you mean by grouping by folder? iTunes does it via the tags in the files, and organises int Genre, Composer artist etc that way. You can then browse for the files using the iPod in that way.

    I have 3000+ tunes that have nothing in there ID tags, am I to assume that Apple would require me to fill in the ID tags for all my tunes in order for me to organise them?

    Well, I don't know how else you expect to be able to find/play them on the iPod. Like most players, it displays the tags, and the navigation is done via them.

    Do you have the info all as part of the file name? Or is it in folders organised by artists etc? There may be some software which can organise the tags for you, I don't know to be fair

    All players ive used organise tunes by the folders you put them in, nice and simple to find tunes, well done to apple for turning something simple into a right pain in the arse.

    To be fair, arranging by tags is a much better way of doing things. I've owned a Rio Karma and 4th Gen iPod, arguably the two best MP3 players, and they both used this method. Since I have my files tagged (why the hell do you not have tags on your files?), it's the best method for me.

    Last thing before I end my rant , If I update id tags / tunes names in the itunes library does it also update the tunes on my hard drive?, if not is there a file where all this info is kept that ill need to back up when I reinstall?

    Just seems a right pain in the arse, I want to turn it on, go to my dance folder for example, scroll through and pick the tune I want.
    Fair enough its good to be able to search genre ect but for someone like me who has so many tunes without tags (never needed to use em before) its a pain in the arse to be forced to organise this way.

    The tags are embedded in the files, hence why the are so wonderful to use. Thus, they are arranged on the software regardless as to their loaction on the harddrive. Which is nice.
