Which car are you MOST likely to see rammed up your exhaust pipe on a Motorway?

If you are in any lane, with a reasonable amount of stopping distance between you and the boke in front, and you look in your rear view mirror:

What Make and Shape of car are you most likely to see RAMMED in your slipstream, so close you can see their tax disk date?

For me, this week, in fog, sleet and rain, I've mostly found BLUMMIN VW GOLF's being driven by people with an IQ of 5, trying to get into my rear exhasut box with their Beasty Boy Badged People's Car. Dunno why....but they're ALL Golfs, and ALL recent models.

    What about you?

No surprises here but BMWs. Usually low end 3 series at that. Or really small old cars like polos, etc having the nuts revved off them, which always makes me giggle.

BMW 320d without a doubt, they think they own the road! Ive usually found other BMW drivers fine, but it always is the 320d + 520d drivers who love to play bumper cars.

That and the obligitory white transit!

Audi's are usually the worst offenders , that or TD owners that think they are driving supercars.

Re: Which car are you MOST likely to see rammed up your exhaust pipe on a Motorway?

Deffinatly A4 TDi drivers.. something is never right in their head. Can't pull out of junctions but always in a hurry on the motorways.

Golf drivers always feel superior to those who were willing to buy a car that actually has character. R32 drivers are usually very courteous though.

BMW's.. the outside lane, otherwise known as the BMW lane will always belong to bmw's and bmw's alone. It's theirs and they aren't giving it back. Since their indicators don't work it would be dangerous for them to try and change lane anyway.

I'll add another to the mix as well.. Girls who are really up their own ... exhaust pipe .. in new Mini's.

The M40 from Wycombe to Oxford is very bad for me - lorries in both 'slow' lanes overtaking each other up and down hills about 2mph faster than each other which means the fast lane is full of people trying to reach terminal velocity with only 6 inches between each bumper. I've been stuck in that a few times, looked down at the speedo and thought what am I doing?

Re: Which car are you MOST likely to see rammed up your exhaust pipe on a Motorway?

it's not a case of me being slow....I cat go any faster, all the lanes are full. I have a reasonabe, though not my own presonal preference...of stopping distance in front of me. I DARE NOT increase my stopping distance or the bloke on my inside will just cut in and ha;ve my chances of survival.

So I hold an average....we all do.

Except Golf Drivers...and now you all mention in...Audi drivers...progressed from Golfs to something a bit bigger since their promotion.

And R32 drivers ARe normally courteous...you're right Mike... but thats cos they brought a car with a PURPOSE, not just cos of the badge.

I very VERY rarely find Mercs parked on my boot release swtich, and I dont find Toyota's there either. Nor many Hondas...the odd Type R, but I get out of his way cos I'm jealous

But Golfs and Audi are driving me nuts.

And to top it off....I was in a body shop yesterday, multi franchise, and it was PACKED with VW's. Not a Vectra or Mondeo there.

I couldnt agree more! I really do worry sometimes that there are so many idiots that are let loose on the roads. With the ability to really do alot of damage to alot of innocent ppl.

It does always seem to be German cars doesn't it?

I don't know if it's the cars that make people drive like arseholes or whether arseholes just prefer to drive German cars but it is a fact that whenever there's someone jammed right up your chuff it's almost always a BMW, a Merc or an Audi.

Re: Which car are you MOST likely to see rammed up your exhaust pipe on a Motorway?

Being a fairly courtious Golf GTI owner, I must be the exception then. I have my moments, but then they would happen no matter what car i drive, it usually stems from beng hungry, bursting for the loo or generally being in a horrible mood.

When i'm a passenger i tend to think the driver is too close to the car in front, no matter what they drive. It could just be perception, from a passengers point of view, but i'm sure i leave more space in front than most others i drive with.

Oh, and I always drove better what I was drive my dads A4 3.0 Quatro Sport. But it kind of scared me at the time.

Not driven mums BMW Mini CooperS enough to say how i react behind the week. It's a crap car anyway.

The Rover Mini Cooper she has on the other hand, everyone lets you out of spaces and gives you the right of way. It's great

Well there is a slight exception to the german rule, if its anything special, e.g GTI, R32, RS4, M5 etc, then drive with much more care and attention, and seem to also have a genuine interest in cars

Agree with whats been said so far - itl usually be the German marques - bmw, audi and merc, along with the vw golf (tho interestingly not any other vw's generally), and the obligatory white van driver.

Anyone in a half reasonable sports car tends to be a prat as well when they get on the motorway....

now where's my pipe and slippers?
