    Job application

No, its in the right section

In all seriousness a job application I have here has the following on it:

"Do you hold a current driving licence?"

I have a full bike licence, and it says driving licence at the top. I do not have a car licence though, does this matter? Am I okay to put 'yes' and they would be unable to do anything if they later found out its for a bike and not a car, even though car is not specified anywhere?

    Cheers

    Re: Job application

They may get you on driving rather than riding ?

    Wikipedia just confuses things:
Driving is the controlled operation of a land vehicle, usually a motor vehicle such as a truck or a car. Although direct operation of a bicycle, a mounted animal (not including chariot operation) or a motorcycle (at least in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada) is commonly called riding, such operators are usually legally considered to be drivers and are required to obey those rules of the road which apply to all drivers.

    Re: Job application

Personally I'd answer no, however that very much risks your application being binned at the first hurdle.

What type of job is it? If it is field based, then definitely no, as it would likely mean company car/van. If it is desk based, then yes.

    Re: Job application

I'd put no... elaborate that you have a riding licence in any comments section or attach a seperate piece of paper explaining so.

    Re: Job application

Unless the job specifically required the use of a car I would say yes. When employing staff, I use this question and whether they have their own transport to mean "Will they be in control of how they get to work or will the be late 50 times a year when the public transport fails".

    Re: Job application

Just phoned up and asked - they said its for simply knowing if you have your own transport. Doesn't matter if its a bike

Thankfully its an office job. Travelling isn't part of the job description luckily.
Having said that I'll be starting my car lessons soon. Hopefully 2 years on a bike will reduce the number needed somewhat

    Thanks all!

    Re: Job application

Having a licence doesn't mean you have the transport though... unless they asked that seperately...

Just make sure you warn me when you're out on the roads
