Having just reread the OP message I think this, (the 5 hours cleaning and polishing), may be the thing which caused the idiot/jealous vandal to resort to such scumback, petty and cowardly action.
It reminds of when my mate spent some time in his front garden varnishing his picnic bench which had been there for a couple of years. The next day it got nicked.
Scum!
BTW jackvdbuk - It was not me who stole it!!
Mindless 'envy vandals' are certainly the lowlife scum of the earth - but there may be more to this story than just random damage . The OP says he left his car parked 'outside his girlfriends' - is it possible he had used someone's habitual parking space? Some people can be very territorial, and aren't averse to keying a car that's in 'their' space. The fact that it looks like key damage suggests that it was done by someone with a key already in their hand, perhaps annoyed after having had to park some distance from their house. Parking disputes can get a lot of backs up - maybe the OP could ask his girlfriend what the parking is usually like around her place.
It doesn't seem to matter where you park nowadays, with todays youth and the growing vandal culture that they seem to thrive within, pretty much everyone I know has been a victim of some sort of vehicle vandalism. I'd not even had my golf a week, when it got keyed... where? On a cinema car park, with CCTV looking over it and yes, you guessed right, their CCTV was non-functional...
You cannot and will never be able to have, anything that is half decent, without some other benefit scrounging youth wanting to destroy that for you, bitter? Slightly....
I doubt there's many things more gut wrenching than working hard for something, only to see it vandalized, be it your car, your home or anything else...

Sorry to hear about that, really is nothing more annoying.
I have also had myc ar vandalised (starting to wonder if there is anybody who hasn't?).
One day somebody smashed one of the rear windows on my Corsa, and I have had my Vauxhall wheel trims stolen from my Astra. I have also had 2 or 3 wing mirrors clipped off probably by a passing truck or something but in my eyes if you do that and don't stop and leave a note you are just as much a vandal as any scally keying cars.
HEXUS FOLDING TEAM It's EASY
I used to have a horrible, knackered old Volvo 340 - after sleeping over at my girlfriend's place I came out the following morning to find some scumbag had nicked the mini wipers off the headlights - bah.
Good Thread
Yes doesn't it just make you made,Get these people of the streets
Sorry for your bad luck
Sorry to hear your bad luck! Hope you can get the quote down from £200.
Also on a side note, have you noticed how most insurance companies class claiming for broken glass as a claim on your insurance policy these days. I'm sure this didn't use to be the case.
I tired Dr ColorChips on my scratches on my car and it made very little difference
I've used touch up paint (from the dealer) and scratch X fairly successfully, well you can still see the scratches, but it means they're no longer white...
