I've joined the club. I'm officially a less-than-averagely-bright individual who can;t tell the difference between a petrol and a diesel pump.
Trying to sort it here with limited success so far...
Oh cock.

Oh cock.
hehe ouch. I have so far managed to never do that. although saying that now i`ll prolly do it next time i fill up

back seat up and unscrew the cover anti clockwise
u cock
to put ur mind at rest you can have 5% unleaded in the tank for bad winter, so get as much out as poss and fill her up
(if it makes u feel any better i did it to a works van about 10 years ago)
J4MES (31-01-2009)
uh oh
at least you didn't start it.
Yes if you can get out as much as possible then fill her up it should not be that much of an issue. But check this its not as bad some way round
Anyone know which is worst
Petrol to diesel tank
or
Deisel to petrol tank

You didn't start it so you'll be fine! As said before take the caps of, they should just unscrew, the screwdriver trick works, we used to do it when the special tool was lost. We actually used a thin rubberized chisel like thin thing (technical I know) to stop the chance of a spark.
As for diesel in a petrol, don't know what it would do but you can't put a diesel nozzle into a petrol car thankfully!

Ouch... I'm dreading the day when i'm not paying attention and do that
Gasoline in a Diesel is worse. It's a good enough cleaner to remove a significant amount of the required lubrication apparently. This can bring about all sorts of nasties. Our beloved MK1 Octavia ('The Skip' or 'The Back breaker') was once filled up with petrol. Fuel pump jammed up which lead to a broken timing belt along the way and bent a load of valves IIRC. At least that's how I remember it.
Of course, it's all Petroleum of a sort so a lil bit of unleaded in a derv almost certainly won't wreck anything. Some people even reckon it gives things a good clean out... can't say I'd try it.
Diesel in a Petrol engine? I used to run a petrol car on 50% unleaded and 50% red diesel.
err no they are the same, worked in a petrol station for 5 years, happened at least once every 3-4 months, best one was a woman who was told not too start the car and to wait while we called the AA for her to get her to a garage (we had our own AA cover we used). got tin the car and started it up and drove round the corner and wondered why her car expired in a cloud of smoke, silly mare!
yes, it is.
Diesel in petrol car maks it run like a bag of crap, cokes up the plugs and that's about it.. it wont run if there's a lot, and needs draining, but not really bad damage, not even to the cat.
But petrol (which is thin and not slippery) in a diesel tank, when run does lots of damage. On older cars, where there is a diesel pump distributing the fuel to the individual cylinders, it can reduce the lubrication within the pump, because diesel oil is very good as lubing, but petrol is crap and the thing wears out very fast.
In a modern car, with electronic dierect injection, the biggest worry is detonation. Diesel detonates at very high presuure.. petrol doesnt s it pinks.. badly.. overheats and burns things!

Beer is life, life is good!
he could add a 5lt can each fill up and wouldnt notice a thing m8
