    Petrol E-mail

I've received a couple of these e-mails in the last few days.

I would have posted in cars and bikes, but I reckon the price of petrol affects more than just the enthuiasts

I'm not normally one to send this sort of thing on, but this time I

Now is it just me, or is everyone forwarding this missing a point??

Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tescos don't make their own petrol.

They buy it from the people that we're supposed to boycott. It's hardly going to work surely.

Especially when the oil companies make more money from wholesale than they could ever make from retail

Not only that, only 10p of what you spend is profit for the company, and for that you get shelter from the rain, someone to talk to, a warm room and use of a working pump. If anything needs to happen, tax has to come down.

The price of oil is difficult to alter, its price is not only determined by supply and demand but also a myriad of other factors such as terrorist threat etc.

Tbh the only people who can alter the price of fuel are the people who levy the taxes on it, this is the government. Targeting specific fuel resellers is pointless, the profit margin on fuel is tiny but the tax earnings from it are enormous.

Yep Skii is right here, its not the companies that are the problem, its whatever the stupid amount of tax that is on petrol that is the problem, Some 75%+ of cost of petrol is to us the Tax payer, thats where the majority of the cost comes from.

Higher petrol prices make everything more expensive, food deliveries to shops cost petrol to get it there, its knock on effect of petrol being expensive is immense, not just to us but to businesses as well.

    How about a new suggestion.

Everybody parks their car outside downing street.

In fact get all the lorry drivers - they're the ones worst hit - to park up at strategic places around London.

    Then see what happens

I'm not saying that this isn't down to the government as it obviously is but if a protest is to be carried out it's better done against the people of the country - causes more fuss and makes it more likely that something will be done about it IMHO (though whatever happens expect it to be a token measure). If they blocked up central London / downing street I imagine they'd call in the army or impound the vehicles or something... Would be interesting to watch though.

Yeah but how are they going to impound 50 artics outside downing street? What are the army going to do? Sure they can move them, but its will take ages, and would be great to see.
