Went driving for first time today...

    Soooo fun!

hehe, I went for a tootle in a mates mini today. Was first time I ever driven a car but I think it went quite well and he was really happy with how good I was for sum1 who hadnt driven anything before!

I didn't do the gears, he took care of that, I just concentrated on pedals and steering. I surprised myself at how unrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishe I was at steering and how quickly I picked up the whole clutch down / clutch up /brake /accelerate thing! I went round corners, round cars - even across a relatively busy crossroads (managed to do a boyracer wheelspin at this point - go me \o/ )

I really can't wait untill I start learning and then pass, driving rocks!

nice work, i take it you were insured on his car.. and he'd been driving 3 years+ or whatever, nice and kosher ...

i've only had 6 lessons now, but got the hang of things, mum is still scared sh!tless when i'm driving about tho - gonna go driving with dad tomorrow, hopefully he'll be more relaxed and trust me more!

quick things not to do which i did the other day... a) go on a motorway, b) speed on a motorway... mum didnt realise the road i was pulling onto was a motorway til we saw a 'end of motorway' sign.. oopsie! wont be doing that again hopefully...

you managed to find an instructor person aswell and got a car to practice in?

    Yeah im just learning to drive too. I think i've got the hang of the clutch, at least most of the time untill i do one god awful clutch drop .;

Its reversing that really gets me. The mirrors make it go in the wrong direction . And then when i get confused i end up pressing the wrong pedal and barreling up the track swerving from side to side .

turkster, that's why you look over your shoulder, and glance in the mirrors and front to make sure nothing is coming and to check the position next the the curb

Ah shurrup, was empty when I crossed and he wouldn't o' let me do it if he thought I was guna smash into sumink. Not gunna see him till a wedding in July so it's not gunna happen agaain - nor did I claim I were 'used' to busy junctions.

I have to say that if someone really hated you and informed the police about this thread then its not exactly going to look that good is it now.

Its not even the fact that A) you are not insured for your own sake, but IF you did hit anyone else they would have problems getting payment for their car's damage, could take 2 years to sort out which is crap.

    B) if caught you can forget about driving, because you'd likely end up with a 2 or 5 year ban, lose your provisional licence, and a £1000 fine.

if you just learning to drive and its not legal, do us all a favour do it in a car park out the way, don't do it on the public road. Get use to the clutch control there, steering is the least of your worries, using the clutch and the gear lever together is....

Don't think we are getting at you Emzay, because we are not, but i'd say we're rather more concerned for your and others safety and well being.

    Thanks

Dont forget that part of learning to drive is learning about the responsibility of getting behind the wheel in the first place.

On a similar note, I just went for a "proper" drive in my own car (not just up and down a huge road), and it feels really good that I was in control without dual pedals, etc!
