My Z3 is silly with the TC on in snow, at least I can turn it off, and drive manually, though its still a wide tyre RWD which is not what you want in snow and ice!
Can't you turn it off on the 135 ?

To All RWD people. Fill your boot with heavy junk.
Makes life far easier provided you don't go cornering too fast (but then you knew that, didn't you)

Just read the local newspaper report of yesturday's action on the local roads. Cars involved in accidents were:
2x Mazda MX5
Mustang
BMW 1 series
and a pugeot 207
I wonder if there's a trend? (the 207 probably broke or something )
Correct about the 135, it's a twin turbo 300bhp 3.0 stright six - a marvel of an engine that is capable of outstanding performance and quite simply ground breaking relative efficiency. BUT with road tyres and snow it is not going to grip so well. Fortunatley, and I speak from some experience, this kind of weather is (apart from the last 14 months rather unusual in this country) I know I would be happy with such a vehicle for 98% of the time - otherwise we would all be running around in defenders with nobbly tyres all year
Tyres width is just so important isn't it! I am being oh so gentle in my big Alfa when small hatchbacks with skinny tyres are happily blasting all over the place.
Still, last year I could at least drive to work when my neighbour with his BMW needed pushing back onto his drive
I am hoping to get the kit car out for some pretty snow pictures, but the snow needs to be cosmetic. Any serious depth and it stays in the warm garage!
Rover 414 + heavy snow = fastest thing on the motorway by a mile! Not a single twitch, just drive straight past everyone. That was the day that the whole of Bromsgrove went home at lunchtime because the weather was "so bad", then I drove to North Yorkshire!
Loved that car...
My little 106 Rallye has been down all the icy and snowy back roads round here no probs at all. Nice to get a bit of lift-off oversteer at 15mph too.
I spent most of yesterday afternoon rescuing my wife, and my brother (and sister-in-law). All the main roads were gridlocked- so google maps on my phone, nipped up all the quiet residential streets at 15-20mph, and the job was a good 'un.
No issues in the snow so far, well, unless you count rounds being shut off because of other people...
Took the TF to my mechanic today for a service, His workshop is on a farm 1/4 of a mile up a narrow lane completely covered in compacted snow crawled along it in second gear with no drama. We had to nip out in his Sierra 4x4 to get an airfilter. Trundled down the lane then in the lay-by (also compacted snow) he flicked it to full opposite lock first one way and then another both of us grinning like loons (he's a professional rally driver, works drive with MG & Fiat ) we where only doing 10 miles an hour but his car control was superb.
Been out with him in the rally car a few times and can thoroughly recommend it if you want a hoot

Have a look at these results for AE's winter tyre test. The summer tyre is Conti Premium Contact2 - past winner of the normal tyre test:

Winter/all season tyres should be mandatory...
Hmm, that's got me thinking actually....
My car is doing fine on the my urban commute at the mo, once you get onto the main roads the weight of traffic keeps them clear- but it's bloody irritating to be stuck behind some knob who thinks it's still necessary to travel at 20mph because there's a bit of slush in the gutter. I can't overtake them because that would involve crossing the slush in the middle of the road....
For next year I'm tempted to get a set of cookie cutter 13" steels from an old Saxo (think they mostly had four stud hubs?) and put winter tyres on them, the wheels would cost me sod all from ebay and the tyres less than £200 for the set (for, say, 155/70 R13s). Then I could rinse around with relative impunity.
But maybe it's a bit of an unjustified expense to save 2 minutes on my commute a few days a year. I should really just set off earlier TBH
just got 4 toyo proxes 4 on the wifes car, had great fun driving back with them
