Scrapping my Clio- which parts to pull for ebay?

Right- after months of disorganisation I've finally decided it's not worth fixing my mum's old diesel Clio. It'd only cost about 150 quid to put it through another MOT, but we'd then have a car worth about 100 quid that we don't actually need. So sadly it's got to go.

All the scrappies I've called have said that they're not interested in breaking the car, which seems like a bit of a waste. So I thought before Monday ( when I've got a scrappy coming to lift it), I'd remove as many useful parts as possible so I can ebay them-partly for a few beer tokens and partly just so they don't go to waste. I haven't really got much time so I need some pointers on what to go for and in what order. I was thinking:

    Headlights
    Taillights
Wheels (the rear tyres are nearly new Conti Eco Contacts)
Exhaust Centre section- also basically new
    Window glass?
NSF strut? It's an OE bilstein, done 2000 miles

Anything else worth grabbing? I've already removed the battery as it's the same type as my Mondeo's. Thanks in advance

rads worth baying, locks inc ignition as a set, door handles, ecu, cooling fan, take all the fuses for your car, relays, speedo clocks, alternator, starter, water pump.

Depends how much effort you want in shifting the lot, but Seats, interior carpets if in good nick - stereo, alternator & servicable (ie working) parts.

If you want, strip it down to the shell and give that to the scrappy - that is what they are really after anyway...

Thanks guys. I'm short of time TBH and most of the body and interior's in poor condition, plus it's a poverty spec RL. Don't have time- or the wherewithal TBH- to go draining the coolant. But the alternator is a good call, will have a crack at it if I get time.

Take your CAT to a scrappy, they are worth around £150 due to the metals in them

if its being scrapped all i would do is cut the pipes and let it drain on the floor, bonus if its raining as you dont have to rinse it away

Depends on the size. I took an alfa and a volvo c70 cat into the scrapyard recently and while the volvo one got £129, the alfa only got £80. They measued the size of the cat to determine price.

As for scraping the car, best option is to offer bits on the forums which is what I tend to do but this really works best if you can keep the car for at least a couple of weeks to allow people time to post their requests. Also, if your new on the forum, take pictures so people know its for real.

Re: Scrapping my Clio- which parts to pull for ebay?

No cat on it, it's an old mechanical injection diesel. Still have the car outside, it's blimmin difficult to get scrappies to turn up when they say they will it seems . I've so far grabbed the headlights, the one good taillight, both mirrors, the exhaust section, the strut, three of the four door glasses, two of the wheels, and the jack and wheel brace. I'll have a crack at the alternator tomorrow, I might just be able to get to it with no headlight in the way.

Edit to say that: it's good fun taking bits off cars that you know you won't have to replace.

If you're getting the windows out - it's worth getting the regulators too (or motors and regulators if it's got leccy windows). While you're in doors, you may as well get the latch mechs too. Even if you only get a few quid for them it'll have stood you at nowt more than a few minutes time.

Interior switchgear, vents, lights, steering wheel, rear view mirror, parcel shelf, seat belts - all come out with relative ease. Steering wheel cowling (usually broken in an attempt to steal), door locks, keys.

Window glass is a good one, most people will use their insurance policy so price them under the most common excess cost (£50?).

Things that get whacked in car parks too, trim, hubcaps, bumpers. Bonnet/bootlid

Might it not be just easier to slam the whole thing up on ebay then and let the buyer make their own collection arrangements ?

Don't forget to remove the "va va voom". Seemingly it's worth quite a bit

Voom? as per the parrot in the immortal John Cleese sketch, I don't think an old £100 Diesel Clio is going to "voom" anywhere
