    Windscreen Cover (Anti-Frost)

Might not seem like it at the moment, but it's going to get colder soon and frost will start appearring on windscreens in the morning. So, since I no longer have a Ford with the "Quick Clear Windscreen" and I now commute to work, I'm thinking of getting one of those covers for the windscreen to save myself some time. Anyone bother with these, are they any good and which would you recommend?

Also, what's the best to clear/clean the inside of a windscreen? If I put the blowers on it actually gets worse before it gets better.

    Cheers.

    Re: Windscreen Cover (Anti-Frost)

To clear the inside of the screen in cold weather, stick the cold blowers on to dry the air out and then the hot blowers on to clear the screen - shouldn't take too long to do.

As for the cover, an old cardboard box (opened out, not folded ) should do the same thing.

    Re: Windscreen Cover (Anti-Frost)

My gran bought me one of those windscreen covers. Found it to be too much hassle, too time consuming getting it out and putting it away. I use a 2 litre container full of luke warm water and pour it over the windscreen and other windows. Pour it slowly so it heats the glass and it's less likely to re-freeze straight away. Never use hot water as can crack the glass. For the inside like the last person said, cold air then hot. If you're in a rush keep a cloth or rag in the car and wipe the inside every few minutes until the car warms up!

mycarsavw - this, I generally use the previous days newspapers (with the wipers stopped half way up the windscreen to hold them in place, saying that the youngest car I've ever own is the one that I have now, dating from '98 so modern wipers may auto down to the parked position  ).

A low power tubular heater inside the car, with the wire coming into the house on a timeswitch. Set the timer to come on about a couple of hours before you go out. Windows defrosted, car interior warm. (Car needs to be off road, obviously)

Tell Jeeves to park it in the garage next time!

(I use a house window cleaner with anti fog (formaldyhe/vinegar)) on the inside of the windscreen once in a while, seems to do quite a good job.)

    Re: Windscreen Cover (Anti-Frost)

I find the cheap cover from the Kleeneze catalogue does the job well. Yes, it's a hassle having to put it on but not as much as having to plug a heater in and run a wire to the house.

    Re: Windscreen Cover (Anti-Frost)

I'm pretty sure you can get them from Poundland now. Basically anything covering the windscreen will work if you remember to put it on....

As for the inside, I tend to use a microfibre cloth, and just keep re-wiping. If the inside of your car is damp, then periodically on a dry day whack your heater on full for a bit and then drive along with all the windows open to dry it out. Also, run your air-con every so often if your car has it, it's supposed to dry the air as I understand it? Also keeps the system in good condition.

heaters on full with air con clears windows in no time, well unless some other magic happens when I press the front and rear windscreen buttons in my Alfa I do miss quickclear though really did work an absolute treat leaving only the side and rear window to be scraped

Come back 10 mins later... to find some chav's driven off in it. All well and good if you live in the middle of nowhere, not so good if you park in the road on an estate...
