average is 39-40.1 mpg but once i hit those motor ways and push the old clio to the 90+ bracket it drops to anything from 23- 27mpg

I get about 52 to 57 mpg from my 1.9 VW diesel (in a Seat body).
I started to track my fuel consumption last year when I started travelling 400-500 miles per week.
It's amazing how it doesn't really vary much unless I rag it around town for a week when I'm off work..

Oh yeah, that's a RenaultSport Clio 182 2.0 16v Which tbh should be getting lower mpg figures for a 180bhp engine.
Thats pretty damn impressive figures Coco - I'm 10hp less and about 5 mpg less with it

6.6 liter turbo diesel pickup, averaging around 21 mpg with a high performance add-on chip, and high performance air induction.
    Am I pleased?
You bet 425 ponies/apprxmtly 600+ ft/lbs. of torque with that kind of mileage, absolutely. (sorry kind of braggin but that's what intrigued me about the Chevy Duramax diesel, it's multi pulse fuel system)

    I got 40mpg today! w00t

That's a 60mile journey, cruise control set at 75, although there was some "stop/start" at the beginning of the journey.

The most economical car I had was my old Renault 19 16v

I think I recorded 43 mpg for a motorway trip to dartford & back.

Fuel economy is something that happens for other people now

    Volvo C70 T5 auto

    round town it drinks 16-18mpg
    on the motorway 30-32mpg

at 125 it goes down to 25 mpg. but is cruising as silently as at 70

i thought this was really bad until i compare with some lower powered cars on here! Acheiving this fuel consuption is not much worse than a 1.6 being ragged. It like the 'white van driver' syndrome where the driver needs to go much faster than is necessary

You sure that someone didn't sneak a 1.4 lump in it?

it was fine , there was just enough traffic to prevent me from going too fast IIRC

before I sorted out the water problem I had the bonnet open every day to clean the plug wells out so I'm pretty certain it wasn't a 1.4
