    Fuel Consumption

What does anybody here get from their car?

    Miles Per Gallon...roughly.

does that please you? Are you after more or less fuel use? Would you like a MORE EFFICIENT or LESS EFFICIENT engine?

55? Don't think I will ever see that in my car!

I usually get about 27 MPG, though at the moment my car says 29.5 MPG which is better than normal! Its mainly due to being stuck in traffic every morning unfortunately! To be honest, fuel consumption is not something I look at often! Maybe I should really. I just fill up again when I run out!

so you buy yer fuel when ya need it. Fair enough. But you still know roughly what it does to the gallon, so it must have a bearing...if only on your wallet.

Is it fair to say that if you had to travel all across the UK in one day, the fuel consumption would be important to you? And if so, why?

so is the combination of speed and miles per gallon a real compromise?

and would the trade off be worth it? More power, quicker car, shorter journey, more fuel use?

I average 50mpg. That is with fairly hard acceleration off roundabouts, etc. And cruising at 70-80ish. Based on a 65mile trip, twice a day.

The lowest I tend to get is 46ish, and I wont tell you how fast to get those figures

And, yeah. I'm quite happy with that. Quite good performance from my diesel and still respectable consumption. If I drive like a granny I have had 64mpg! but where's the fun in that?

and its not worth going slowly for the extra fuel consumption becuase you already feel like you get a good deal? Fair enough.

We are all "pre programmed" to know roughly what is good or bad fuel consumption. But is it right ? Or should we be looking for a combo of other things too. Like getting places faster and using more fuel. Or getting there slower and using less?

About 27 with air con on, 33 with aircon off. Depends on the weather

Obviously I'd love to spend less on go-go juice but considerng the above average performance of the car and compared to how other models have the same/worse mpg figures I'm fairly happy.

Sounds like XTR drives like me then

Mine too is a 1.6, this time in an Alfa 147. Also consumes a litre of oil per 1000 miles, front tyres every 8k miles, and brake pads every 10k
