decat on a '94?
so its illegal then? ... and u put it back on for M.O.T.'s?
no 3dfx, decat is not a legal requirement for MOT's.
if i'm wrong, flame me to hell.
sorry russ but i think you are wrong,i'm pretty sure its up untill august 92 that you don't need one for a mot.
yep... reason I know is cos my bro had a Rover 420GSI and de-catted it cos it was a 1991 J or summet... so he could, but his mate who had a newer 420GSI couldnt de-cat his. The de-cat on my bro's 420GSI gained him about 3bhp! ... wow heh hehup untill august 92 that you don't need one for a mot.
Yes, all the CRX VTs came with cats, but almost all can be taken off as they were registered before 92. There's very few Mk2 CRXs in K reg, and they were all made before and registered late.
On another note. Don't buy a 420gsi. The engine is a brick and upsets the handling of the car. The 416 is the one to get, especially if you can find a 416GTi twin cam as they have as much power anyway.
Chris
I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...
My brother bought that car in 1995...and sold it in 1998 so I dont think he'll be buying another considering their age now...On another note. Don't buy a 420gsi. The engine is a brick and upsets the handling of the car.
Oh and he'd lowered it too.
is the correct amswer, im sure jif lemon wud sort this out.Originally posted by Shad
It's not a legal requirement to have a cat, but it's highly unlikely the car would meet the emissions requirements without one and would therefore be unlawful.
my bad
'There is no necessity to have a catalytic converter on any vehicle. However, your vehicle will be MOT Tested as if it had one and it is unlikely that it will pass the emissions part of the MOT without the cat. The reason being that the engine and the catalytic converter were all part of the same integral design to meet the emission requirements when the vehicle was manufactured'
