Smile Renault 19 16v, Yay Or Nay?.

Got the chance of a K plate 19 16v in white with black leather. Its got no t&t but i've been told it failed its MOT on bottom balljoints only...he's asking £300 but i'm looking at getting it for more around £200. What you think?.

    yay.

£200-300 quid is good, and it only needs that one thing replacing.

I guess it depends on your budget and how much your willing to spend for repairs, but it seems quite good to me.

I say go for it, but then im biased. Still a cracking car and will show up many a newer car in the traffic light grand prix stakes.

Bottom arms are only pennies for them anyway and the leathers worth the money your paying

    Talking

Doing the balljoints is no problem...the battery was flat tonight though so i'm popping back the weekend to hear it running. I really should sell off the leather and the rest of the bits and drop the engine in the Laguna...

    How many miles?

Renaults of that era always have something major go wrong at about 100k. It could of already had it, it might not...

However, if it's packing leather seats, you'll flog them and get your money back and in the meanwhile have a stonking car for the money. Not hugely paced, but it'll out handle most modern motors, and the engine revs for England.. well, France. They cry to be revved, and chucking a simple open cone filter will provide you with one of the best 4 pot induction noises known to man.

    Go buy it.

Well for me it's a Nay, if it only needs 2 ball joints why were they not done and sold with 12 months test, it'll need loads of repairs, brakes, wheel bearings, shockers, ABS is a problem, if the pump goes it's engine out, but then I can't say looking at a monitor, it could be scrap or immaculate, you get what you pay for.

Been to have a look now he's got it running and i'm thinking nay as well. Its tappety and doesn't rev well from cold, the cooling fan doesn't look like it works (i turned it off when the needle hit the top of the gauge, wanted to see if it did cut in), the exhaust it a bit knackered, the alternator sounds like the bearings have gone and somebodys tried to get in it and screwdrivered the lock out on the passenger side door. I did get him down from £300 to £150 though...

If it's any help in deciding. They are all like then when they have been left standing. Clears after the first run, clears even quicker if you give it an oil change straight away. I hate leaving mine standing for more than a couple of weeks.

Well, i bought it for £150...no cash has changed hands yet as i'm trying to p/x a pair of S2 RST Recaro's that the lads brother wants. Hopefully i can get it for £90/£100 and my seats . Then i'll chuck it on the back of the recovery truck and take it up my mates workshop, have a proper look at it...
