I'd have to say that keeping/replacing the 530d for work and buying a fun / weekend only car will be a better option, why compromise your fun car with having to be up to the daily commute.

    Some options...

    katerham superlight
westfield with a bike engine (megabusa ? )
    turbo'd MX-5
    radical
something from Quantum (nice fiesta based kit cars with 2ltr XR-4i engines)
    elise
or a classic car.... MG RV-8, MG C, Lotus elan

I guess it depends how happy you are to get your hands greasy

    I'd get a BMW 530i.

The M5 isn't going to be that much different to my current 530i apart from being much faster. It's basically a 5-Series BMW with performance bits and a superb engine.

I'm really after something that I want to drive just for the hell of it (like when I had my Boxster - I would make any excuse to drive it and would usually take the long way home!).

I could go all bling and buy a 25 year old Rolls Royce for £15K and some fake jewelry from a car boot sale. I'd also need a Fubu hat and orange wraparound glasses to complete the image.

I can't help but think keep the BM and get something stupid. I loved being in the Toyota supra and the mazda RX7 both are stupidly fast cars (type RS RX7).

You wouldn't go wrong with a porsche either though

How about a lotus or something? Audi TT? One of the new nissan 350Zs?

I have to say that i'm a bit limited as to what i can suggest having never been in a REAL sports car.

I'm a fan of big comfy saloons so I would suggest an Audi A4 or A6 with a 3.0TDi if you still want good milage. Alternatively the Mondeo ST220 is only half your budget, looks nice, and is pretty quick.

Test drive one first. The magazines keep putting it in group tests with all sorts of barmy machinery like the Ferrari F430 - it's got to be good for that to happen.

It's a tad more than just a fast 5 Series..

I'm not even reading any suggestions in this thread - there is only one mid life crisis car... Porsche 911, and buy the newest you can afford. Nothing else comes close.

    Truth.

My brother has one, and, quite simply, wow.
