They will have a tax disc, but look at the cost on it.

    Still here?
Again, the suggestions are totally awesome. But I don't want to drive about in a Masserati and be forced to buy my clothes from TK-Max as it costs so much to run! My budget of £45K is an absolute max and is solely designed to help me over my mid-life crisis!!! It's going to be a car for a year or so (max 2 years) after which i'll settle down being a middle-aged old man.

I'll go have a word with a Maser owner I know and see if he'll post on here for you

I dont know what you expect? You want a fast sports car - but without incurring big running costs? Wake up

The only way to get through a mid life crisis without big running costs would i suppose be a superbike? Mind you you run the risk of death and not actually living through your mid life crisis and not being able to live out the rest of your decrepid years in a home with some poor young girl cleaning up your dihhoreah (sp?)

Hmm - after reading that back - i would take the superbike mate! And make sure its turbocharged one!

imo the older maseratis are a pain in the bum especialy the old turbos v unreliable . however the new ones like the grand sport are alot better but they still pretty pricey , for a fun mid life crisis car you cant get much better than a TVR . ok they do have things go wrong with them but if you spend say 38-40 k on one from a propper tvr garage ,you will get a 2 year full warrenty and of all the cars ive owned ive never had as much fun as i did in my 4.5 cerbera anything after about 02 plate and they have improved no end if i was going to buy another TVR id get a 350 they handle like a dream and are alot of fun.

Bizatch's suggestions are very tempting. A TVR T350C is looking mightily tempting. I'm just checking that my will and life insurance are up to date...

It looks very striking and has obscene performance. If I were to get one i'd thrash it for a year and then flog it and buy a Volvo

A Porsche 911 would have to be an old one and forking out that sort of money i'd rather get a decent warranty from the manufacturer on a new/nearly new car. If I was loaded it would definitely be a Porsche 911.

two words, (or one word abbrevieated)

    Kit-Car

its got mid life crisis written all over it, its well within your budget, its taken my dad from mid life to semi-old life so far with various ones, and theres a wide selction of wild cars to choose from, from wild to timid. indeed theres many manufactures out there, depending on your ages and preferances you have:

Westfield: sleek smooth looking chasis all GRP body, come in the most winderful colours, kits available in more modern designs with power bulges, or in older styles with more sweeping wings and little metally bits

Caterham: basiacally the same as westfield, generally less pleasing on the eye, thus posing potential is massivly reduced, bodies tend to be made out of metal and dont look as vibrant as their westfield conterpart

Super Seven: see caterham, basically not much difference

Locost/locoust: plastic or metal built again, called locost because of the pitifully low cost it takes to make them, back hoem often seen haring round the racetrack as just frames with shaby metal bodies, and base dashboards, and one main seat with a fire extinguisher where the passenger seat would be, its more of a track day car than a posing one,

Dax rush, Tiger, Quantum, Etc Etc: generally grouped together as a slightly 'older' version of the above, normally kitted out with the squishy leather seats and the older men with handlerbar mustaches and split window goggles, again its preferance.

those above are what are generally thought of when the word kit car is said, although thers all kind of things under this umbrella, jesters to cobra's. a good link to see the variation is here shows what ive been talking about above and the variation between,

of course you dont have to build one of these yourself, lookin on the auto trader site a while ago, there are loads of guys who are sellign them at reasonable and cheap prices, due to a variety of reasons, depending on what your after you can get them with any sort of engines, ive seen quite an array about, 1600X-flows to 2ltr Zetecs, V8's are popular among the faster ones, and of course the speedfreaks, hayabusa megabussa and ffirebalde motorbike engines in the the car chasis, you can even get one with TWO engines if you have the cash and the need for speed that bad, still well within your 45k price range by a long margin.

cheap battered slightly old one maybe with a smaller enginer = 6-9k
tidy recently built one with slightly larger engine = 10-13k
    motorbike engine one = 10-12k
and v8's twins and all the rest areall around this bracket give or take a few k,

lots of work can be spent fixing them up as a pastime or a hobby and unless your doing major work most of it is superfical so it doesnt take a genius or someoen expert with their hands to maintain them.

Yeah, also all of these are under the classic car bracket insureance (well most of them afaik)

cant think of anyone else on here that would know about them, except cocpops, he had one,

another link you might find usefull,

yeah, you can also go on runs with various differnet clubs they have round the country, good fun for a day out, pic below of dads yellow westfield on one of the runs

    pic taken from here

    hope this helps

    Richard Evans

p.s. sorry for the krap typing
