    Quite.

What group is your Mondeo Fox? And your Xantia?
My car is group 6, I was 18 when I took out the policy, didn't hvae any no claims and only a year's driving experience yet I didn't hvae any problems insuring it. Sure, it cost £1300 but people's definitions of "won't get insured" differ. This wasn't actually a great deal more expensive than had I had my own policy on my Cinquecento. I thin kthe quotes for that were between £1000 and £1200. That was a group 2 car. Basic motoring.

It had central locking and electric windows though

Xantia 9, Mondeo 12. Insured the Mondeo @ 19 so to be honest anything this side of a Mondeo is easily insurable at reasonable and only marginal additional cost for somebody of 31 regardless of driving experience.

whoah wow there. Talk about taking my friendly comments out of context! It wasn't a dig. I was in a "gotta get a deal done now" situation.

It wasn't a dig dude. It was just the situation presented to hand. i had to get shot of a car that was falling to bits, 12 weeks after I bought privately. Beggers cant be choosers. I need 18 months full parts & labour warranty. I don't want to be paying almost nowt in parts until Im well settled in.

31 or no 31, Im paying £845 fully comp. Every quote for something "nicer" was more than that. This is group 2, not group 3 by the way.

Im not trying to convince you, im just dissapointed that confused and other quotes I had would not insure me for something "more refined". Life sucks, Il live with it. Im not actually bothered about manual windows. Im more concerned with having a car that runs great and will last me a couple of years while im sorting my house out. I close the deal in days, so I've run out of time to chase down an LX. I did look but they are more than the 4k budget if you want a long warranty & such.

It won't be sold, it'l replace whatever my sister is driving. It will still be better than what she can afford. Yes, I can afford a £20k car easily on my salary but Im buying a house. I have other things to pay for which will last a hell of alot longer than my car will

    Manual windows ftw!

Enjoy your car shorty. I am comfy driving my parent's mondeo estate, but the directness of my 106 is on a different level. Small cars have their advantages too.

Go easy guys. No fisty cuffs needed.

Shorty I am AMAZED by how much your insurance is!! Where on earth do you live - Mosside?!!!

I am 25, insured on a group 18 car with extra boy racer modifications declared and I am only paying £645 fully comp, thats in the outside of cardiff which aint exactly chelsea is it?

I can not understand how you are paying over £800 on a group 3 fiesta, at 31 years of age!!! Did you shop around at all? I had some quotes for £1000-£3000 on my car, but i still persevered and found the absolout cheapest I could get. Just gotta put a bit of effort in?

    Just my 2p.

    Enjoy your car either way!

I was paying 670 tpft in my first year for a 106 (probably group 3 too). This is 800 for fully comp on a newish expensivish car. No ncb will sting even if you are older. Even if its not the cheapest quote it'll still be a lot.

I shopped around all over the place. Rang and web checkups. My age is totally not taken into account at all. I did spend a week researching any quote I could. This was still the cheapest

The area I live isn't that bad but it's far from the comforts of Didsbury or such like.

Once I've done my first year, my premium will drop like a stone. My current insurer (screentrade) told me the biggest factor was the NCB & the fact I've been only legal to drive for a few months. Sucks but Il survive. Next year will be a different story

    I LOVE my car!

That explains it... it goes as much on driving experience as age. I was paying just over £400 on the Landy 3 years ago, having been driving for about 4 years. This year, if I still had it I'd be paying the princely sum of £180 FC, and I'm only 26.

It doesn't explain it, my sister paid £600 insurnace in her own name on a Group 4 car at 17 with no experience.

Yeah, but she's a woman, and as every ****ing second ad on telly seems to want to remind us, they have fewer accidents.

You'll note the wording of that advert changed. It's actually a total lie, they have more accidents.

Women make fewer (and smaller) claims.

ooor.... as I found out today. Install a CAT1 alarm (which also gives me remote central locking FTW!) and get a £170 refund

Alarm going in on Saturday. The refund pays for the alarm

It's already got central locking. The alarm simply makes it remote central locking
