I have seen the sticker in the front of the book at it says 74kw, which is the same as 100bhp. I'll check the sticker in the boot when I get it later. I've got mine from Autotrader, so I'm not sure of it's original location, but I can check later.

I'll also check the engine as well.

It'll seriously annoy many hot-hatch drivers, as they find their little rocket isn't pulling away from that big executive barge as fast as they'd like

I use my '80 as a benchmark for other cars - if they pull away from me i'm like 'meh, c'est la vie' but if they're not i'm 'god that's slow' It is not a light car by any means..

lol - well it never feels that way as you always want more power (it's a slippery slope) as you get used to it. The '80 is technically the wife's car (she's learning atm) so i'm not really as greedy as all that. Well, mostly

We have our new car! Yay!
    http://baboba.blogspot.com/2006/09/f...urs-later.html

The car drives well, it definitely feels like a 100bhp car, compared to a 110bhp Octavia we drove recently. However I feel like it could do with a service or tuning, or new air filter or something (like redex?) to improve performance a bit, as it seems like it's not matching manufacturer's specs (0-60, etc). At 2000rpm there is a decent boost from the turbo but then at 2.3, or 2.4k rpm it feels like it can't be bothered accellerating so fast and then acceleration is much more gradual, is this fairly normal, it almost feels like it's been de-tuned?

Josh - Manufacturers 0-60's can be a bit like mobile manufacturer talk time estimations. they are often done in somewhat atypical considerations without any mechanical sympthay.

I really dont think a bolt on airfilter will transform the car in the way you think it will

if its the tdi lump then one of the more acceptable remaps to up the boost a bit will make a difference. Getting the best out of the relativly narrow powerband on a diesel does require a fair bit of shifting ( as it does on most smalish capacity turbocharged cars ).

Run it down to Mk and I'll give you an honest opinion , and you can have a drive in le shed , which exhibts a very typical tuned TD responce - I might iven take you out in the 200

"le shed" is the pet name for my Pug 306 TD runabout - its battered and the electrics have a personality of its own , but being an old fasioned TD , upping the boost involved turning 2 screws

He needs to get that looked at then Boost should only be present when the engine is under load lol

Depends on the size and configuration of the turbo doesnt it? Engines do produce exhaust gasses when idling you know

Not really - it's more about the ECU not actually requesting boost when the engine is idle - to do so would be a stupid waste of fuel at best, and you don't really want to wear a turbo any more than you have to already Turbos also spin at rather excessive RPM and 'idle' exhaust gases aren't anywhere near the pressure required lol Of course, if you've got a very very tiny turbo then..
Stick a boost guage on the car - you'll note that at idle you're actually in negative pressure When crusing at a constant speed it's more or less nil too - it's only when under load (i.e accelerating against something) that you'll see anything else - hence why a rolling road is required to plot a boost curve.
