    So it finally happened

So my 360 finally gave up today. Had it since launch with no problems, and today it froze while I was playing Test Drive Unlimited. Red light on bottom right quadrant (while vertical). I reset it, and I get the 3 red lights of death. Secondary error code is 0102.

Phoned MS, and it's gonna be £70 + VAT because I'm just out of warranty.

It wasn't due to overheating, as I'd only been playing for 5 minutes.

Ignore what MS say, use your consumer rights!
The entire "You just have a year warranty" is silly. Go to the retailer and get a replacement. If they play up, use the sales of goods act (url).

A bit over a year is not a resonable time for a ~£300 machine to last (assuming it was a premium), and the sales of goods act will back you up on this.
Any issues, phone trading standards as I personaly know somone that went down this route and got it replaced within days

The retailer is Scan . It's a core machine, because that's all Scan got on launch. Will give them a ring in the morning.

Heck, go and read the EU directive 99/44/EC. Im 99% sure it states that you have 2 years warranty on it by law.

    I'll check tomrrow. Im tired

Edit - checked - this does not cover the UK at present, but the sales of goods act allows for a claim up to a maximum of 6 years after purchase (you will need to have exceptional circumstances for that though )

    Cheers Agent.

    http://europa.eu.int/smartapi/cgi/sg...model=guichett

    Article 5

    Time limits

    1. The seller shall be held liable under Article 3 where the lack of conformity becomes apparent within two years as from delivery of the goods. If, under national legislation, the rights laid down in Article 3(2) are subject to a limitation period, that period shall not expire within a period of two years from the time of delivery.

I guess the fault comes under this?

I am in the same boat, I have a launch-day console from Woolies that died at the weekend.

Microsoft has a policy of replacing ALL Xbox360s that were produced before Jan 2006 free of charge, shame they limit it to the US =/

Seems they are happy to admit the first batch were crap but only compensate US citizens for their sloppyness.

It might add ammo, I am going to try and pressure woolies myself.

You may be able to get one from an electrical retailer (dixons, currys, et al), but it may be worth phoning your household insurance Co. and getting it covered on that (it may already be covered, won't hurt to ask).

can you not buy a new brand new one, wait a few weeks and then return your broken one with the new ones receipt? Or is that a bit too cheeky Its what I'd do anyway
Well, I can cut it in half!

Hmm, could be "old stock", AFAIK, serial number doesn't get printed onto the receipt

I don't think they'd have any way of proving it wasn't the one matching the receipt
