Is there a list of companies/producers that have signed up to what formats yet.
It would be interesting for me to see who has commited to what and who is still on the fence in terms of big companies.
It is Inevitable.....
The only losers in these types of corporate line drawing and format warring is the consumers, ergo all of us. I would expect someone to challenge me and I'd show you a betamax early adopter... His name is Clarke, he's from Shropshire.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
once of the reasons I've not adopted a HD player is this very reason.
It is Inevitable.....
I've sort of hedged my bets (bought a PS3 and a Toshiba HDDVD player), but so far its the wider choice of movies on BluRay that's swaying me to choose BR over HDDVD. No doubt that will change when the studios see the error of initially only backing one horse (as they seem to be doing more and more frequently now).
There is one factor in the battle that hasn't been mentioned yet, perhaps because of its controversial nature - the porn industry. Its been pivotal in the ascension of both VHS and DVD as a home medium, and is hands down the biggest releaser of movies in the world (even bigger than Bollywood!) When I read that Sony have vetoed helping the porn industry use Blu-Ray for XXX movies, it struck me that they learned nothing from their Betamax experience. HDDVD are bound to step in, get by far the biggest market share of all hi-def discs and consign Sony to the dustbin.
thats a valid point and I thought the same, but looking at whats been said here it looks like the porn industry isn't having the hit its expected to.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get porn on blue ray, just because sony isnt going to help it isnt going to stop it.
NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, GBA, DS, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3 60gb, XBOX, XBOX 360, Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, Neo Geo CD
As far as I am aware the BDA is allowing pawn cocktail to be distributed via Blu-Ray. There is a catch however in that Sony is the major power within the BDA and with the majority of the Blu-Ray producing factories and they firmly detest the idea of pawn cocktail being stamped onto their products and then distributed, hence it is difficult for it to happen... but it is allowed. Because of this and other technicalities it is easier for shall we say "film studios" to use HD-DVD. I think I am right in what I said; I vaguely remember reading about it - might have been on dailytech.

I think what's happening is that Sony's anti-smut stance means they won't be involved in the pressing/reproduction/manufacture/whateveritscalled of Blu-Ray smut, but the other companies involved capable of manufacturing the discs are free to do so.
As such I guess there's a big opening (watch it...) for some BR manufacturing plant to be the first to manufacture BR jazz discs.
*edit*Just had a quick Google and it seems the ball is already rolling. Vivid and New Media have titles coming out now on Blu-ray.
Play.com have XXX on Blu-Ray too. But although it features a muscular skinhead in the lead, and stars people called Teejay and Asia it's not actually smut. Just Vin Diesel

Blu-ray and HD DVD probed in EU investigation
Quote: The European Commission is probing the two high-definition disc formats amid an investigation that could seriously shake up high definition in Europe. The Commission has demanded access to all files relating to Hollywood movie studios' deals with Blu-ray and HD DVD .

It's weird but I find myself liking Blu-ray more simply because of the name, the fact that it's associated with Sony and that the blue boxes look much nicer than the red ones for HD Still, I don't own either.
Thieves seem to like Blu-ray more as well lol, I found this quite amusing:

Here's an interesting story...http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/01...total_hd_disc/
and blu-ray still winning...http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9740033-1.html
Just ordered some more blu-rays the other day including 300.
Also for anyone that has not got it yet - defo recommend Planet Earth on blu-ray http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/pro...ducts_id=35855
If you have a nice big HD TV bung it on and show your friends and family and they will be amazed. Really is a title to showcase HD.
