    FPS frustration

Righty then, forza 2 is fun, but I've got some HMV and Woolies vouchers burning a hole in my pocket and shooty kill games like COD4 and GRAW look really good fun....BUT

I've tried out the demo to GRAW and I'm not sure If I like it - back in the good old days on PCs I could run around WASD stylee and with a smooth deft mouse swing could bring my crosshairs to rest on target like it was second nature, now with this joypad its IMPOSSIBLE !!!!! Tell me this gets easier ? trying to steer the crosshairs on target with the little joystick whilst Diego is emptying clip after clip into my head makes me wonder if I'm actually going to get used to this, sure its hard enough when he's camped out and not moving, but when he's pegging along and staying mobile I just can't keep my sights on him

Tell me this gets easier ?

you get used to it, practice makes for almost-perfect, but its never going to be as good as WASD + a mouse

    Re: FPS frustration

it gets easiER, but never trivial

here's the thing though - is that a bad thing?

how many soldiers do you reckon can run round a corner and shoot from the hip between someone's eyes in a fraction of a second?

pc gamers moan about wanting a mouse because it's *easy* - it requires so little skill to aim perfectly with a mouse compared to, well, anything else in existence.

    Re: FPS frustration

The thing about PC games is that there are mods for them, and the servers are a lot more tweakable than console games, hence many COD4 serevers dont have cross hairs so you have to use the sights. Consequently if you in a situation where you will be up close, you need a machine pistol, as with the real thing you pull the trigger and stitch it across the target. But if you going long range then its rifle time, even then its bloody difficult. I have been playing online FPS since the original rainbow six, COD4 one the best of its type ever released, and with custom maps, mods, etc its only going to get better.

    Re: FPS frustration

You could try an adaptor like I've done. Got used to it a lot quicker than I would a joypad and got comfortable with it over Xmas playng CoD4. Sniping with a LMG is always satisfying! It's being able to do more than a couple of things at once that I find difficult with a joypad, like jumping and aiming, but that might just me being a retard at using joypads!

    Re: FPS frustration

i actually found using a pad really hard to begin with, now its pretty much second nature. I have the odd moment of frustration through over/under compensation, but it gets better all the time.

also cod 4 on the consoles has the no crosshair mode as well, its called hardcore

Ok chaps - you've convinced me to stick with it, but I don't think I'll be investing with either of the GRAW games - COD4 looks MUCH more appetising .

I guess its all down to practise, I was just shock at how bad I was !!

GRAW is pretty awful IMO, R6 Vegas however is really cool, might be worth looking into.

    Re: FPS frustration

I loved GRAW2 onthe pc, but it can be unforgiving at times if you've made tactical errors earlier on in the game. CoD4 is just pure class, although i forund it a bit short in SP. Having said that i'm getting the weird "iw3sp.exe has stopped working" error since i changed graphics cards & it's driving me nuts! tried all the solutions i could on google & the ones given by the activision help desk but to no avail.

I cant get to grips with FPS's on the 360 tho.

Just get Halo3 or Call of Duty 4, and avoid crap like Perfect Dark Zero.
