They have to add blue-ray to the next re-incarnation of the x-box 360 probably 360 v3 or whatever they are upto now, will be before end of year. But no doubt cost more.lol

Would make no sense not to, as I'm sure a large part of the market is waiting for it.

You only have MS to blame for this, they decided that the 360 must come in different flavours, with & without hdd. All games have to run without hdd involved, yes there are some minor exceptions (FFXI)

The market is not waiting for a Blu-ray equipped 360. All it will do is confuse the market even more, with/without Hdd. With/without Blu-ray, DvD/Blu-ray games (both would need to be supported). Makes a complete mockery of what a games console should be. Simple!

The only time it makes sense to use Blu-ray will be in the next generation.

Yeah but how hard would it be for the game to check if space is available and then use it if its there?

i'd still like to see an addon drive for movies that is reasonably cheaper than a stand alone blu ray player much like the hddvd drive was

An addon drive would be nice. I say it would HAVE to have really good upscaling tech or i'd jsut get a proper dedicated bluray player.

I seem to use my PC for everything, so I'll just get a "HD" drive for the PC, given time.

I was initially going to get a combined BR/HD-D Drive for my PC (which I watch all my movies on), but now HD-DVD is dying out, I'll just wait till RE Blu-Ray drives come down in price a bit (about £70-80 preferably), then dive in.

With (excellent) programs like PowerDVD on the PC, I don't see the need, personally, for any other hardware.

I feel the same way about the 360 I should add. My brother was trying to get me playing his 360 today, but I couldn't get on with the controller.

I appreciate it's likely just personal choice, combined with a "minimalist" attitude (one "piece of junk" is easier to look after), but I prefer
    • gaming on the PC (with my Logitech Trackball and Microsoft WED8000/Belkin N52 keyboard(s))
    • watching movies on my PC (using CyberLink & (small) HD Screen)
    • listening to music on PC (using WMP11 & S750 speakers)

    Anyway, that's majorly off topic.

Re: MS to support Blu Ray on XBOX360?

It's a pity MS didn't make use of the HD-DVD drive for games even if Movie companies had given up on HD-DVD. Would have solved the space issue.

Re: MS to support Blu Ray on XBOX360?

It would have to be in a brand new console, not a 360 refresh, this would alienate their gamers already even further. So maybe XBox 3? Lets hope they get their heat problems and RROD sorted for the next one.

Kinda of an issue with production of the actual HD-DVD disks stopping

microsoft will never support blu ray movies through the 360, because they want people to buy movies via the xbox live store

It will take ages to download an HD movie and even then it will be heavily compressed.

The 720p ones they have on there run to about 5-6GB and dont take long to download. They actually dont look at all bad! Infact I was quite impressed with the quality compared to SkyHD.

Still a bit too expensive though and the 24 hour re-watch period is tight.
