Told you so! does your viewsonic have downscaling ability? Try 1080p if it does.

I tried it at 1080p and the monitor turns off. So no downscaling

Games and DVD's look pretty good at 720p!! I am quite impressed.

I'm using the official VGA cable on my 19" Samsung 932MW the picture quality is absolutely amazing when compared to using component cables.

Just as a side note: with the new update to the dashboard this autumn, the 360 will be able to support all non standard resolutions such as 1440 x 900, etc, etc...

So that should enable just about any monitor to be hooked up via the vga cable to the 360 in it's native res.

New update provides support for 16:10 at for a 19" or 20" widescreen monitor native res

still no 1920x1200....but i'm not too bothered as most games dont do 1080p to start with....and im using hdmi on my screen

This really made my day when i read about it yesterday!

Its really annoying at the moment because i'm running my 360 on a none native resolution i can't wait to use 1440*900 on it at last

im using my monitor with my xbox through RGB, bit of a shame though as no 1080p

I use a Dell 2407 for my 360 exclusively. It's absolutely fab. 1080p and 1:1 pixel mapping.

The new 16:10 modes in the fall dashboard update will make me really happy (I hope).

Personal I hated having it set to 1:1 as it stretched everything. So I've opted to have the blank bands but proper ratio.

I don't notice it once you get sucked into a game tbh.

I thought that *was* 1:1 mapping? i.e. if you have black bars top and bottom then you are getting the image as per the xbox output? If not ignore me!

no, you're correct. 1:1 pixel mapping means you get black borders where resolutions don't - and is desirable for avoiding blurriness

Just checked the settings and for the 360 (VGA) it's on 1:1. For the PC its set to Fill.

Have also left the 'image mode' to multimedia as I think it gives a nicer colour range (deeper black etc.)
