    MAG(Massive Action Game)

    some new MAG info

Here I go I guess. Just typing it as I read it lol

    -2 to 256 Players
-'hopes' for 30FPS when all the action is going down at all times
-Dedicated servers with new network architectures to help reduce lag
-Streamline matches to reduce need to wait.
-All audio cues (planes flying by, air raid sirens) are actual players causing it or player triggered actions. This can happen in other regions and you can hear in distance.
-PunkBuster quality cheating detection. System tests for things like rate of fire/movement/damage to keep things in check
-First Person view (better sense of scale and immersion into game)
-20 years in future, 3 major PMCs bid for war. The power struggle of these 3 dubbed Shadow War
3 Factions, only 2 announced now: Raven(high tech weapons, most trained soldiers on planet. Will appeal to Halo/Resistances fans). Sver(fierce fighters from middle east/central Asia area. Battle harden warriors)
-256 Domination mode. Attackers and defenders. Out layer of defense and inner layer. Once gone through the out layer 'hell breaks loose'. Anti-aircraft and radar are vulnerable. If your faction wins alot it gets the contract for that game mode and gets XP bonuses and perks.
-3 other game modes: Acquisition(128 player escort-style mode. Steal 2 prototype armored transports and bring to extraction zone). Sabotage(64player, control 2 points for X time then a demolition objective is revealed which must be destroyed). Suppression(64 player team deathmatch)
    -Customize face, voice, armor.
-No soldier class system, but has a free-form kit creation. Can save 3 different load-outs. Depending on your choice of weapons, it can be told by looking at you so others can tell. Change your load-out to match how the battle is going.
-Snipers can get more than normal XP for killing people in designated areas of importance
-Ranking up gives access to new weapons/perks/leadership positions.
-Recognizes issues with large scale maps and the traveling.

-8 player into a squad, 4 squads into a platoon, 4 platoons into a company (US Military)
-Certain goals for each squad/platoon etc. Have 2ndary goals like blowing bridges.
-Veteran ranks can enlist into leadership roles, give orders to squad, then platoon, then the company(OIC)
-Officer only communication channel to help organize the battle

-Want to be approachable to casual yet have alot of features for the hardcore.
-Been running 256 player tests since Nov. 08 and plans to have closed/open betas

    Re: MAG(Massive Action Game)

Been hearing good things from the Private beta's earlier this year, seems each beta update resolved issues encountered, and there is now a open beta (5th beta release) starting January 4th 2009 for a week if anyone wants to check it out before release.

    Game detail given as.....

The game will utilize a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads, with 4 squads forming a platoon, and 4 platoons forming a company. Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system. Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay. The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.

Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play. The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes.

Players will be able to customize the face, voice, and armor of their characters, as well as what weapons and kit they carry into battle. The game will be a first-person shooter.

I think overall im most interested to see how the servers handle 256 player games, later beta versions seems to iron out and issues with it, so i will give it a download and test come Jan to see how it plays.

Has a Jan 29th release and Amazon seems to have cheapest deal...

I think the funniest thing will be as leader if the other 127 players on your team listen to you, and follow commands lol

Open beta is soon and i played the closed beta. The game is a mess - imagine 64 of you spawning in 1 area (yes the same exact area) only for someone to call in airstrike every 5 mins.

I thought it was going to be more Battlefield 2 than Bad Company 1 if you know what i'm saying.

The 64 player one area sounds fun Couldnt think of anything more annoying than getting shot by a teammate because they wanna get in the vehicle, Sounds like a spawn kill fest.

    Anyways back to MAG....

    Re: MAG(Massive Action Game)

hmmm beta starts Jan 4th globally - The download is available from US store now and EU not until Jan 4th itself can see there being a bottleneck trying to get it on EU same day as go live. But luckily it looks like it will be same client and just localised by your main account you play under so think i may download from US store first in preparation to beat the EU rush.

It's like neither IMO - get the beta and see for yourself though. In general i thought it was a poor game, shame becuase the idea was good but the execution just lets it down which was always going to be the problem.

    Re: MAG(Massive Action Game)

Well i got my 200mb install then there is a 38mb patch then an 2gb update, so all installed and awaiting today when the servers go live.

I think it runs until 10th Jan, You can play 2 modes 64player (not sure what mode) and 256 Domination match...

All the reports of the beta have been good, saying it plays like cod than killzone..

Think of 10 mw2 maps playing next to each other and your able to run between maps, probably about the size of it.

I thought the idea of the open beta was for everyone to get into it, try looking on the PSN when you get home/now if you can.

    Re: MAG(Massive Action Game)

tried the closed beta a few months ago and no i hate it because of the controls. i cant stand playing fps games on a control pad anymore especially the ps3 one. the game has to be mind blowingly brilliant for me to consider buying a fps game on the ps3 and the last game that came close was bad company and ironically stopped playing it after a month or two.
