I won't be getting one to replace my 40gb biggun. Don't really see any advantage at present.

Seen the latest PS3 TV ads? Games aren't given much mention, it's all about access to content, videos, blu-ray. I think they even feature VidZone more than they do Games. Looks like Sony are deliberately positioning it away from games.

And for the record, got a fat 80GB PS3 and I'm very happy with it. Bought it to play games, watch blu-rays, upscale DVDs and stream music and pics. So far we've had great gaming parties (Singstar, GHWT etc.), watched a couple of blu-rays, played lots of other games very happily, showed wedding photos to family on projector rather than on PC... and signed up for Sky+ HD which has pretty much put an end to buying films. Games games games and I'm very happy with them.

I will be getting a second PS3 for upstairs, will probably go for a slim (can still use old PS3 fo ps2 games etc)
Well just got back, we picked one up at H'row T3 for 212 quid from HMV - but took it out and back with us. Playing with it now demos via the playstation store?

Nice one. Makes sense to get duty free when you can.

Yeah lots of demo's on the playstation store. Allot more on there compared to the old days. Also some great games you can buy and download stuff like Wipeout HD/tekken etc.

If they don't sound like two 360's going at once when they get hot then I'll get rid of my 40gb model and get one of these, if they sound the same then there's really no point.

hehe, well the slim is meant to be lower power consumption and quieter than the old bling "fatty" ps3, but tbh my 60gb release model has always been positively whisper quiet compared to my old 360 hoover. Was your 40gb noisy then?

Well the last 4 haven't been so they're going to get my money on day 1.

There's nothing in the slimline PS3 that makes me want to go out and buy one. If they'd added backward compatibility though.....

Was and is a very noisy machine, it's ok when its not a hot day or the central heating isn't on. When the temperature heats up the fan kicks in and I have to whack the telly up to granny volume.

This is my second ps3 as the other one had a faulty blueray drive, I know the fan was loud on the old one but this one seems to come on even if you just breathe on it. My ps3 is louder then my 360 arcade has ever been.

Re: Did anyone buy a PS3 slim today?

I think the Slim looks really nice, just not as good as the original Trey's. I love my 60GB I have had since a month or so after UK launch and my 80GB I got last month for a great price. My 80 has a 3 year Gamecare plan but my 60 is now well out of warranty.
I can see a lot of folk taking the swap deals for their Phatties just to get the years cover from Sony and the chance to take out extended warranty with the store. I just love my 60GB too much to swap though

I have been playing Infamous lots on my slim. So far whisper quiet. A bit hot on the base of the console though. Very nice. A purchase I am happy with.
