I read somewhere that Sony had reported a 999% increase in PS3 sales since the release of the PS3 Slim - just goes to show that no one was buying the PS3 before I guess.

I was very tempted to replace my JPN 20GB (now 250GB) Fat PS3 with a slim one but not enough to justify the current pricing anyways, when it drops to the £200 mark or when/if they bring out the 250GB model for around the same price then I think I replace my first gen PS3 for the slim one, it will certainly save me a bit on my energy bill, not to mention making the room cooler.
Picked up a 250GB version from Argos with 2 cheap games for £285 and got 2 £10 vouchers (1 for use in Oct and 1 for Nov) at the weekend. Not a bad deal imo.
The PS3 Slim, is probably the best bargain out there. It's cheap as it gets for a awesome console + Blu ray player. WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR?!
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.
Who let the crazed fanboy in?
Was slightly tempted, but only by the fact that the Slim will bitstream HD audio to my amp, which means that my Dolby Try HD & DTS MA HD lights would finally illuminate on my Onkyo 606!
Not really a great reason to give up my USA 500 gig PS3....!
I still never use mine.

I'd love to get one, really tempted now that Christmas is coming. I have fond memories of unwrapping a console at this festive time (PS1, PS2, N64) but I just don't think I can justify it without the Backwards Compatibility of the First Gen US / Japan ones.
I believe they had FULL BC via additional Hardware in the shiny box (I heard that they just yanked out the PS2 gubbins and shoved them in the PS3, with a little more care and precision though!), maybe Thor and Azzin can confirm this?
I actually bought a 60gb, the last in that GAME (Tunbridge Wells) had but I decided to return it as I read that the UK / Euro market only got Software BC which couldn't play ALL of the PS2 games released (unlike the Hardware / Software combo that others got on release).
Maybe I'll pick one up if the price drops below £200, if they reintroduced full BC though I would buy one instantly! Probably camp outside the shop to make sure I got one too
Cheers,
Harv
I've got full Hardware BC on my JPN Fat PS3 (CECHB) and Software BC on my US Fat PS3 (CECHE), not that i've ever used it considering I don't own any JPN/US PS2 games, i'm now looking for a mint Fat UK PS3 for my sister, plenty out there it's just a matter of finding the right deal.
My UK release 60gb plays 100% of all my PS2 titles fine, although i only have about 25 PS2 games left. There was a list you could check against to see which worked, not seen it for a while though, but remember checking and all of mine were covered. Spose comes down to how many titles you have
Hi Thor, Hi Barrichello,
Thanks for the replies, really appreciate the input. Apologies to the OP if I have hijacked this thread a little
I must admit I do sometimes regret not going for the 60gb version, I think it was just the notion that my games wouldn't work that put the brakes on the plan. I remember looking at that site Barrichello but about 6 (out of 12 games I had at the time, I had more but sold them off!) of the games (going by the code on the box / disc) wouldn't have played that well / at all on the console.
These were my favourite games (MGS 2, ZOE 1, ZOE 2, Onimusha, Onimusha 2 and Devil May Cry) and I just didn't fancy breaking the seal only to find out that they might or might not have worked all that well. I guess it is luck of the draw though as to those that work and those that don't.
Must admit I would be swayed a bit if they released the PS2 back catalogue for download! I would love to pick up SSX again, really miss the buzz of that game!
I thought that PS3 games weren't region locked Thor? I can't say that ever really crossed my mind, I just thought "you lucky gits!" at the time! I have seen a few up for grabs but there just seems to be something stopping me from going for it (I have a dozen or so SACD's so that aspect appeals to the Gen 1 versions too), I know that it's unlikely for Sony to reverse the BC decision but I'm still holding out hope for it!
Cheers,
Harv
I really like the PS3, we got a slim - BUT I have hardly played the damn thing. Maybe over xmas when I have the time!
While PS3 games aren't region locked PS2 games are, which means if I want to play any PS2 games (don't have any anyways) then I'd have to import them from either Japan or the USA, it's a pity as I fancy playing/watching the previous MGS games after completing MGS4 on the PS3.
I too hope that they release the PS2 back catalogue on the PSN.
LOL....
That's the truth man.... I don't own the slim, but that's why I'm a little affraid of buying it, cause I know I just personally don't have the time to appreciate it and actually put it to use.... sad I know...
But it definately is a great buy, great bang for your buck!!

Got a 250gb Slim with AC2 for £269.99 @ GAME on Dec 5th, and Uncharted 2 for £25 elsewhere with a discount code, got a platinum in both.
