Getting one? Maybe, but not terribly likely (see below)..

Want one? In theory, yes, but ....

    1) I'm waiting to see if it lives up to the hype and expectations. Some of the initial feedback implies perhaps not. So, I'll be watching what you think of it quite carefully.

    2) This one is a personal evaluation .... we all have a value system and ascribe values to thing we might buy. If the cost is under that value, we buy, and how much that value is will vary from person to person. This is really me saying that, for me, it's ludicrously over-priced.

So to answer my own "do I want one" question, the answer is yes, but not an anywhere near the current price. At half the current price, maybe, but for me, it really wants to be under £50, and I'm doubtful it ever (in the reasonably near future at least) will be.

But I'm simply not (unless I win a lottery jackpot, which isn't likely as I rarely buy a ticket) forking out close to the price I paid for the XBox for a single accessory, no matter how brilliant it turns out to be. I'm simply not that avid a gamer any more, and certainly not that avid a console gamer.

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

I've been really impressed with the Kinect. As previous posters have stated, set it up properly and there are no issues with lag (or very little, not noticeable, really).

Perhaps the most important consideration is the physical setup - room size can be a problem. You need to be 6 feet away for single player, and 8 feet away for two players. And some room to the side to move, too.

Providing you've got the space, it's great fun. Kinect Sports and Dance Central, very impressive!

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

I'm toying with the idea to get another kinect now as the one I've got is used so much I hardly get a chance now to get on my profile on my xbox.

If it's not the missus playing Dance Central or the EA fitness thing it's the rest of the tribe playing Kinect Sports all the time so I hardly get a look in on my own console now. As some of you know I'm greedy and have 3 xboxes at home, so my plan is to get another kinect and relegate the missus and the kids to the older console, leaving me time and space to play on mine.

Good job microsoft You've gone and made the kinect appeal to people who used to think that gaming was only for the 1337 crew out there and I'm paying the price

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

Just got Fitness Evolved today and had a quick go, it works well and is a decent game to boot. If other games come out with the same polish and quality as this and Dance Central the actual use of Kinect would be immense.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

I tried it the other day at my friend's place, and it was great fun with Kinect Adventure and some fitness game. Getting it is out of the question though because I just don't have the space required (or an Xbox 360 for that matter), and given how infrequency I have guests (largely tied to the limited space), it'll require some quite a few 'epic' single player games that before I consider one (the Xbox 360 is justifiable). By then, the Xbox 720 may be round the corner along with the Kinect 2.

It is a fair chunk of money for a controller, especially if you are only going to use it yourself.

I think for a lot of people though, the Kinect will be great value as the cost of it vs 4 x PS Moves or 4 x Wii Remotes + WMP + Nunchuk makes it seem quite attractive.

I personally cannot see myself getting one yet, for the same reasons I didn't buy a Wii and won't buy a Move, everything about it seems a bit too gimmicky atm. It seems a nice social toy for an hour or 2 after a few of you have had a bit to drink but otherwise I find the games get old, fast and most of the time, you really do not feel like your properly participating.

I am hoping that second generation titles for these control methods will be a lot better.

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

Well, it looks like kinect could be improved next year with the release of a simple dashboard update going on what has been reported Here

If this is the case, I can't wait to see what it's like as its damn good at the moment

Does this mean we're actually going to see kinect compatible FPS games when it is able to detect individual fingers?

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

How are you finding it with room.

Bit cheeky but would it be possible to see the room size and tell us how your doing as that's my biggest concern about buying one.

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

I'm actually lucky with the room size aspect as my living room is quite large and can accomidate 2 players playing table tennis against each other with ample room for the missus to pass behind us while shes getting drinks and stuff like that

My living room is near enough 11 ft in length and 10 ft wide going on what I can remember from when the carpets got measured and fitting last year.

Not yet, I've not seen another game worth getting yet really overall.

The Michael Jackson dance games not out till Feb 2011, and lucasarts are tweaking the star wars 'kinect' game that's coming out so it will be ready when it's finished.

I reckon these 2 will be the killer games for the kinect as most people think they can dance like wacko jacko after a few beers and we all want to be jedi's secretly.

Agreed, Dance Central is by far the best game on Kinect and I don't even like dancing! Novelty is starting to wear off a little (as it did with the Wii) just hope they can incorporate it into games for the more 'hardcore' gamer

is this thing actually any good? from the reviews ive read on amazon many people seem to complain about the massive amount of space you need to use it.
