Thumbs up Just took delivery of a Kinect!

Well it actually arrived yesterday but I was in London

So.. why you ask? Well officially my excuse is Mrs DAngel wants Dance Central after me showing her vids of people playing it - unofficially I really find this new toy rather exciting. It seems quite sci-fi to me in a world of Wii controllers or Sony Dildos(tm). I've yet to try this but I will be this weekend and my inner child is all aflutter Yes I'm going to look a total tool playing with it but I'm sure it's going to be a massive laugh with friends (possibly after a glass of rioja or two..)

Anyone else got one? Getting one?

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

I'm not sure if it's compatible with my PS3?

I'm really intrigued by Kinect but I'm not sure it appeals to my gaming needs, I need to go down to HMV & use some gaming time to have a play on their demo one. Let us know how you get on

I Got 1 on day of launch - what shortage Microsoft

I got home and the missus had been out to GAME and got me kinect along with dance central and kinect sports.

Dance Central is DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN hard and that's coming from someone what is able to shift his ass to a beat and catch a few lasers. I've got 5 stars on a few tracks, but trying to jump into the beastie boys body moving fatboy slim remix without attempting any other track was probably of a silly idea

Kinect Sports is cracking good fun and those who have my gamertag added will have seen I've been battering people all week playing table-tennis on the kinect.

[EDIT] - Add me if you've not got my gamertag, it will be fun to play others. My tag is CORPSEMAK3R

I got one on Wednesday, only got Kinect adventures but Dance Central and the Ubisoft Fitness games look to be on the table soonish.

NYE, Kinect, Alcohol - what could possibly go wrong ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

someone might vomit on your console or kinect control system

I've got people queuing up now to come round to my house and play on mine before they go out and get one.

Even though the kinect is still in it's early days, I can see the potential of the controller and cannot wait to see how it develops in the future once they've learnt its limitations.

Girlfriend has it and has been jumping around playing Dance Central like a loon ever since

Looks like Kinect has a lot of potential, really seems to work well. But Dance Central....god dam....it's selection of music is pretty dire.

I think that's the key point - this feels like something really new. It was fascinating reading about the trouble harmonix had build the menu system for their game for example - devs are venturing into new territory here. There's talk of controller + kinect for games (imagine voice control + maybe lifting a hand to tell you teammates to stop)..

The wii succeeded because it was easy for casual gamers to play and also because it captured people's imagination by being a new way to interact with games. I think Kinect has the same potential, and although hard core gamers are going to be extremely sceptical they're not the majority shareholders in the market these days.

Re: Just took delivery of a Kinect!

What I will say is that to get the optimum performance from the hardware run the kinect tuner several times in various different light levels so the camera is able to store information about you on your profile.

I spent 30 minutes setting mine up and doing this and I've not experienced any lag or indeed any issues with the controller at the present time. It now has all the profiles for everyone in the house, and last night when I walked in the front room after finishing work, it scanned my face and came up CORPSEMAK3R recognized while my other half was playing Dance Central.

If that is the case, run the kinect tuner several times with each user that is going to be using it.

Microsoft say that it is also a good idea to run the kinect tuner throughout the day, 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon and 1 in the evening so the device is able to store settings to your profile with the different levels of light. I've done this a few times now just because I wanted to, but I've not had any issues with the sensor giving any false detections

I saw tonight that Sky integrates with the kinect, so you can change channels etc without the Sky remote - nice!

Don't do it! Through it might be worth it for the PC (with the hacks) and for the Sky, love the idea of being able to control the channels by waving your arms about, but... that gives rise to an new concept of controller fights!

It looks like Minority Report from 2002, and I thought that sort of hand control was way in the future.

Dance Central is the only thing on there that seems worth getting Kinect for at the moment. I want that Star Wars game, but thats not out till next year Christmas. Oh well, means I can save more money!
