Optical output+HDMI at same time

Hey I've got an Xbox 360 Elite and I'm gonna be building a new computer set-up soon with some new 5.1 surround speakers. Now these have an optical in which it says can be used for Xbox 360, which I know it can, but it comes out of the AV cable.

What I wanna do is have the optical out but with the HDMI picture quality as well (my TV doesn't have an optical out so that's not an option).

I've seen videos on YouTube and that of people using the AV cable, with the optical cable plugged in, at the same time as the HDMI cable with it all working, but when I tried it, as soon as I plugged in the AV cable I lost the picture from the HDMI.

So I did some more research and I think that for the Xbox 360 Elite version they stopped you from being able to run both cables at the same time. So is there any other cables out there that will be able to help me or any other solutions or am I stuck with in-TV sound for now?

It comes as part of the official xBox HDMI pack - though they do sometimes pop up on ebay

I wouldn't need to because my AV cable is the thin one that came with the Elite version, so physically I can fit them both in at the same time, but the HDMI doesn't produce a picture when the AV lead is in.

Your too late with the link though I already bought one from ebay, but I wish I waited now because I paid £3.50!! (But its my parents ebay account=my parents money lol)

It can, you just have to set the output over HDMI first, there are numerous guides on how to do it online

Yeah, when I tried it I was on my 360 (not playing a game at the time thank god lol) and as soon as I plugged the component cable in I lost the picture from my HDMI cable

That's why I was saying in the OP that I think they changed it for the Elite version so that you can't use both ports with video outputs, hopefully this audio output will be fine

I had a falcon arcade which was circa the same time, it is possible

You will probably have to turn the tv volume off though
