Predator (if it bleeds, we can kill it)
Terminator 2
Alien
Aliens

Bad Boys 2
saving private ryan is overated kack, the baech landings show the horror of war but then the last 60 minutes turns into the dirty bloody dozen, and the flag waving at the end was sickening.
Russ i hope ur jokin about the Fast and the Furious and Bad Boys 2.
okay heres a list in no order and it is really ust the ones that come to mind at the moment
The Pianist
Amelie
Battle Royale
La Haine
From Hell
Land and Freedom
Stalingrad
Trainspotting
Hi Fidelity
Life of Brian
And i hate Star Wars hype and Lord of the Rings is alrite but people think its an epic masterpiece just cos its long.
The Matrix would've made it but the sequels have left a sour taste in my mouth.
Its really hard pickin ur fav movies cos it really depends what mood ur in and what ones u remember.
"The less you eat, drink and buy books; the less you go to the theatre, the dance hall, the public house; the less you think, love, theorise, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you save – the greater becomes your treasure which neither moths nor rust will devour – your capital. The less you are, the less you express your own life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life, the greater is the store of your estranged being." Karl Marx
[QUOTE=MuTTy_Hc] It's biggin up America once again, when we ALL know they wouldn't sacrifice men for 1 solitary man.
QUOTE]
Now this annoys me.
There have been 3,400 Medals of Honor awarded to the american armed forces since its creation in 1861.
Who on earth are you to say that 'We all know they wouldn't sacrifice men for 1 solitary man'
Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors have recievd their countries highest awards for bravery on ALL sides for acts of heroism, bravery and self-sacrifice, in many instances, not alone.
How anyone can smugly say that 'they would never do that' from the comfort of their computer keyboard about a War they never experienced 60 years ago.
The dozens of D-Day veterans who worked with Speilberg on the film never once questioned the motive of a small squad of grunts that decided to make a last stand against massive odds. There was no mention or reference to non-American allied combatants in the film, fair enough, that was unfortunate, but lets not let this current trendy Anti-american attitude completely cloud our judgement eh ?
Maybe you want to take a trip down to Normandy and look at the graves in their thousands, maybe, just maybe 1 or 2 of those American graves represented soldiers that took a bullet for a comrade - willingly.

fair point ski anti americanism has become a fashion statement. I hate how everyone who cracks a George Bush or anti american joke thinks they are so radical.
However Saving Private Ryan was a load of ole bolloxs, it tries to be toughtful and anti war but then reinforces jingoistic nonsense that helps justify wars at the same time.
Spielberg is the most overrated film director ever! all his films basically fall into black and white morality tales.
And Schindlers List is emotionally moving but lacks any kind of depth, The Pianist is a much better film.

I do see your point about the jingoistic stuff, but the message that the film gave to me wasn't about your country, it was about making a stand and making a difference, listen to Hank's speech about why they did what they did - no reference to 'For America' at all. The beginning and end of SPR still make me cry, simply an old man falling to his knees in front of thousands and thousands of his dead comrades, amongst them was that 1 Sargeant who laid down his life so that 1 remaining brother could survive the war.Originally Posted by revol68
We'll all agree and disagree on favorite films and styles of film making, but history is history, and people who scoff at the thought of bravery and self sacrifice in War need to read a few more books.
yes but what about the german veterans and the japaneese veterans orwhat about the millions of civilians killed. What about Hiroshimawhat about Dresden??
the portrayal of ww2 as a epicattle against fascism is a lie world war 2 was a war between imperialist powers, infact Hitler was a good guy until he started getting greedy as was old Mussolini but hey nevermind that.
Self sacrifice and braveryisall well and godbut in itself but it needs to be put in a context, for exampleal qaeda suciide bombers display great bravery and self sacrifce but for what effect?
Instead of using the fallen to justify future wars and induce the cancer that is patriotism we should look at who died and for what and act so that it doesnt ever happen again.
every war means working class kids dying at the behest of politicains for the interests of the ruling class, nomore should we go off tofight for them but instead rise against the scum who see us as pawns.
the working class has no country.
