[QUOTE=Skii]I'm definately not Anti- American, and your point goes completely away from what I initially stated.Originally Posted by MuTTy_Hc

Other than that, the beach landing was superb and I credit spielberg for that completely, he knows how to picture world war 2, for example look at Schindlers List.
I do believe that you completely mis-read what I had to say,
some films which REALLY big up america against the english are for example, The Patriot. One of my favourite war films. Last of the Mohicans, an absolute masterpiece. They are definately anti- english, quite obvious to anyone.
Please if you're going to make a statement, actually understand my point before classing me as a anti- something and ignorant fool.
I full well know what the men did in WW2 and how they helped their fellow men on the beaches, my point however as stated above is perfectly valid and true.
EDIT: ALso for the record Skii, I also found the end of SPR very moving.
SPR itself was a dramatised, almost 'fairytale' story about WW2 (hence the yank generals ordering those men to save the one brother etc for the mother so she could hold onto at least one son) and then it added extreme realism to the movie (beach landing, final battle scene) and merged together to make an extremely good movie.

No, it wasn't unrealistic. Why? Because, even then, the Yanks had the power of PR sussed. If something like that happened, and imo it probably did, that story would have been syndicated across the Western World and morale amongst the Allies boosted. War isn't all about fighting and campaigns, it involves intelligence and propaganda as well.It IS unrealistic that they would sacrifice 10 men to save one man because the mother had already lost two of her sons. that IS unrealistic isn't it?

There's a thin person in every fat person.....that's because they just ate them.
Mutty, I didn't misunderstand what you said - you made a clear statement, which I quoted and resonded to, You have subsequently explained yourself better and qualified some of your points, but what you initially stated, was where I took issue.Originally Posted by MuTTy_Hc
The concept of many soldiers dying for 1 man is indeed probably an unlikely concept, but not impossible, and in the thousands nay millions that died in WW2, I'm willing to wager it happened.
Full Metal Jacket.....probably the most amazing movie with more amazing 1 liner's than you can wave a stick at thank to that Sarge....many sayings poached by Opposing Force..and rightfully so!!!
Fave Bit:
"where you from boy?"
"Texas Sir"
"My God!, You know what comes out of Texas? CowBoys and Faggots! and you certainly don't look like no cowboy! so you a faggot?"
"Sir, no SIR"
"BULLrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish!!! i bet you could suck a golf ball through a hose pipe!"

Private:
Sir. Texas, Sir.
DS:
Only steers and queers come from Texas and you dont look much like a steer to me.
the "golf ball threw a garden hose" is towards private pile not the chap from texas.
In no particular order
1 - Fight Club
2 - Donnie Darko
3 - LOTR - The Two Towers
4 - Saving Private Ryan
5 - Natural Born Killers
6 - Pulp Fiction
7 - Se7en
8 - Trainspotting
9 - High Fidelity
10 - The Matrix
On the subject of over emphasising American efforts in war films and so forth, I personally don't have much of a problem with that. These films are dramatisations of actual events. What I do have a problem with is when they completely rewrite history.
Example
The capture of a "Shark" Enigma machine in U571 - not with standing they weren't the first people to 'obtain' one, the 5-series U-Boats didn't come out till right at the end of the war, long after Enigma had been cracked.
Still, we brits can be just as bad, as it was the poles that cracked the simplest version of Enigma first. We cracked Shark and developed the Colossi to decode the messages quicker.....
Anyway, top 10 films in no particular order -
Seven Samurai
Twelve Angry Men
The Princess Bride
Bringing up Baby
The Matrix
The Goonies
Evil Dead 2
Leon
Star Wars
The Iron Giant
Would actually find it harder to complete worst 10 films, apart from THE worst which is Plan 9 From Outer Space - it's so bad that it's a cult classic
