i appreciate that they are more advanced but it feels like they are pushing through the boundaries of acceptability. If they can't release a stable product, they shouldn't release it.

With the Xbox 360, it seems like rule one was "make it smaller than the Xbox" and everything else should follow that. How many of you 360 owners would understand if microsoft said "well we wanted to make it smaller but it was prone to becoming unstable even completely failing"?

I also understand that manufacturers need to supply the market with what it wants, but there has to be a limit, preferably an explained one.

Yeah I agree, it's not acceptable, if you're dropping £300 on a product, it better last the 5 years before the next console is released.

The 360 is actually bigger than the xbox BTW

They could, but that would be very expensive, water cooling is something only PC enthusiasts really get into. You also get the problem with watercooling, that although the temperature of the chips go down, the ambient case temperature and motherboard temperature tend to go up, due to the lack of case airflow.

iirc, they were going to put water cooling on the 360 but it turned out to be too expensive as you said. Imagine the difference it would have made though

But you can get external air coolers for the new consoles.

BTW surprising my 20 year old Atari ST still works along with a couple of the 10+ year old floppy games (now why don't the newer floppies containing my uni work not work...... even though they've had significantly less reads!)
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

    My wii just broke

had disc read issues last night, and today seemed to give up the ghost totally (game wouldnt load, after 5 mins when it did it stuttered LOTS on the menu screen) another game gave me a disc error (brand new disc, played fine on a mates wii) and then both of the wiimotes lost connectivity!

Not happy and im still on hold to nintendo waiting for someone to answer the damn phone!
